Auto turbo?
Auto turbo?
Hey guys im looking into buying a G35 in Australia and wanted to know if its possible to go FI with an automatic without having to strengthen the tranny? I see that Vortech dont advise using their kit with Autos so im wondering what kits are available for autos and what is the limit the auto tranny can with stand? I want a reliable kit thats a complete bolt on with every nut and part needed for a full finished turbo/supercharged kit. Thanks in advance

It's possible. The tranny won't last long without a valve body upgrade, torque converter doesn't hurt either, and if the climate is warm, a cooler is also highly recommended.
Superchargers are friendlier to the 5AT than turbos for 2 reasons:
(1) Superchargers produce less torque than turbos, torque kills the auto.
(2) Supercharger boost builds with engine RPM, it doesn't come as a sudden jolt of power like a turbo does.
The limit will be different for everyone. Depending on your driving style, and what shape the tranny is in already will determine how long the 5AT will last and at what power limits. My stock trans with 10,000 babied miles on it lasted 3,000 miles of being driven hard FI. I got a brand new 5AT and put the VB on it from day one, hasn't given me any trouble in 20,000 rough FI miles.
If you want a for sure reliable kit with every nut and bolt buy a new Vortech, HKS, Stillen, or ATI unit. All can be reliable and "safe" for the engine if tuned correctly.

what was your stock whp and torque?
Get the AT cooler regardless of climate, in addition to VB upgrade. It's much cheaper than replacing your overheated tranny.

It was a joke dude lol cool your jets playboy
I bet you lost HP with your CAI.
/\ If it was a joke it sure didn't sound like one IMHO.
Back to original topic I have a auto that has a rebuilt tranny and a transgo VB kit and big cooler, I have a vortch s/c and I can run a max of 10psi making about 380WHP and it is very sweet chripping 3rd in a auto. Not to mention embarrassing corvetts and such on the track. I have had no problems other then the tranny ecu going crazy and into limp mode for no other reason then one tire was spinning much faster then the other man I need to get that LSD installed. So far I have 2k miles on it and love the power with a auto go for it you will not be disappointed if you do it right and do your homework and choose the tuner wisely.
