If you're talking about the valvebody upgrade there are guys who can do it on their own... if I remember correctly it's mostly about keeping parts sorted out, and keeping track of absolutely everything. A LOT of different pieces involved and a couple of things can go wrong easily. I don't want to start throwing a bunch of wrong numbers at you but I know my shop that did the upgrade and cooler took about 7 hours or so. It wasn't their first one- but it had been awhile. They took their time and did it right...
I can also say it was the most significant upgrade I did to bring my car to life. I put an exhaust on, HFCs, spacer, stillen high flow intake / z tube... etc... There was a little placebo umph. I got a Cobb tune done and that shook things up a bit... but still... well... not all I'd hoped for.
Threw the VB upgrade in there- and boom. Was like I had a whole different car. The shifting was just remarkable. I don't care what the 6mts say...
So take your time on it- find someone you know who is METICULOUS about everything they do... I have a guy at work who used to do bomb disposal for the canadian military- THAT kind of meticulous. Best if that meticulous guy has a hoist or you have a buddy who runs a shop and can do it on something other than jackstands. Not to say it's impossible- but ugh I couldn't imagine doing it.
There's a great DIY over in the drivetrain DIY located here
Read through it and you'll see what's up.
And if I've totally read the UB tranny wrong and you're talking about something totally different- well then so be it.
Oh and Nyqueenz... I resemble that remark!

... and my 5AT has held nearly 600 wtq without issues so far (knock on wood).

Most of us go at because we like the convenience then get bitten by the boost bug- kind of like getting bitten by a mosquito- except that they have a cure for malaria.
Built motor? Built tranny? Okay so we have a bit less money to throw at making stuff all perdy like...
Look at me... Talking like I already have numbers to brag about.
Anyway- unquestionably it's more reasonable to go mt with FI but take it easy on us at guys. "we wants to play too!"

i believe Raj's sensor is inline with one of his cooler lines.

I used to have my ATF temp gauge inline before the cooler and it was very erratic - stomp on the pedal and watch it skyrocket. This is because the fluid comes directly from the torque converter. Placing it after the cooler makes the temp much more stable and I think provides a better indication of the fluid temps inside the transmission (as opposed to that leaving the TC).

One last set of mods to go - new IC, new exhaust combo with electric cut outs. I'm pushing the JWT 700bbs to their limit, hoping the 5AT will hold up, but so far so good. Right now I've got a torque curve that peaks near 600 and drops like a rock to under 400 at redline. I'm hoping I'll be able to get something a little flatter to ease the burden on the transmission and maintain some top end pull. We'll see...
