SuperCharger Anxiety !!!

So, I just got the call. My car is ready to pick up and the Vortech is installed. When they told me, it hit me...What the hell did you just do?! As of late, all of these ppl are posting how they've blown their motors and fried their rings and I am not prepared for this responsibility! I have no gauges, no increased sized injectors, and I'm road racing it on Saturday! I plan to run 100 octane fuel to help with any possible detonation, but jeez! And to top it off, I've run out of funds for this project. This was supposed to be a fun experience and now I am worried about driving the car I got the DAMN SC for to drive!

Sorry for the rant. I should have listened to my wife and never got the damn thing in the first place. I hate it when their right!

2 G or not 2 G, there's no question!

Re: SuperCharger Anxiety !!!

WHOA....look you bought a great piece of equipment. I really feel your doubts and anxiety are due to just a general lack of knowledge of what you're getting and what it's doing inside your engine. You seem to grasp the stuff really well and have a good knowledge. I've been there man, a lot of us have. You will learn so much in your next two months. You really have to. The blower, although claims to be nearly maintanence free, should be looked at often to make sure nothing has rattle loose, or in the path of a moving object. My hood is up probably every 3 days atleast. Not that I find problems a lot, but I like to keep my eye on everything. Just today I found a bolt that worked loose on my intercooler mount. Stuff like that. I know the dealer/tuner is telling you the vortech is a set it and forget it system, but I really disagree. Atleast not for me. That's the fun part, looking at all those moving parts and figuring out what does what. You're going to love the extra power and the whine of the s/c purring. Use this board or my350z as a resource or pm me if you come up with a question your installers are not sure of. Like I said earlier on the phone, you'll need to listen to guys that live with these blowers everyday, not just the ones who install them.

Re: SuperCharger Anxiety !!!

Randy....If your shop hasnt touched the tune on your kit it will run very rich .No need for 100 octane . As for road racing it so soon.....I think....for me....I would like to run it for couple weeks to see if there isnt some bug in it from the installation . Clamp not tight , belt not tight enough . Some thing simple that might pop up . If you go...figure out what tools to take with you to tighten your serp belt , as it seems to losen up a couple of times with in the first few hundred miles . Remember the guys that are haven bad problems are the ones pushing the limits with there kits [my self included ] Dont be a worry wart and go have some fun with it ....Bill

Couldnt afford it when young...gonna play when Im old

Re: SuperCharger Anxiety !!!

Me a worry wart...never! Yeah right...well, it looks like I won't be able to track it anyways. The Split Second box or FMU was defective and they need to get a new part from Vortech...maybe a blessing in disguise!

gspot35, I've got just one word for you my friend... "loctite".

Why didn't Lokey use Loctite on all of the screws/bolts that they installed? This just seems like a common sense thing to do???

Re: SuperCharger Anxiety !!!

Good that you decided to take it easy on the Vortech before tracking the car. I was going to say something about it but last Saturday but I didn't want to rain on your parade. You looked like you really wanted to go racing this weekend. Anyways, like everyone is saying take it easy for a while. Break it in first I don't know for how many miles before you can really give it some juice. Just observe, listen and feel the difference before doing anything crazy. Goodluck hope you have lots of fun with car keep us posted.

Re: SuperCharger Anxiety !!!

Why not use loctite on everything? Cause if you ever want to take it off again, you got a serious job on your hands.

Re: SuperCharger Anxiety !!!

Couldn't you just use a medium grade loctite. Something that is reworkable, but strong enough to act like a locking helicoil insert?

Also Randy, Super Charger Anxiety is better than Super Charger Envy.
