Vortech with extras still CARB approved?
after my incident with the Davis traffic officers, I was pulled over in San Francisco because he claimed that my exhaust was illegal. Here's how I got out of it without getting my hood popped:
A) I said that my exhaust is after the cats and it is below the 95db sound level which meets california standards.
B) When he asked me to pop my hood, I said no.
C) he called me a smart a$$ and I responded that I knew my rights and he does not have a probable cause to pop my hood. He only had a "reasonable suspicion" but under the "plain view doctrine" he cannot move anything to attempt to find any evidence. Therefore, he could not tow my car and cannot forcefully pop my hood. That would be considered moving my stuff and that would be unlawful.
So technically if a officer ask you to pop your hood, you can say no and they cant do jack $hit about it. They claim that they can tow your car, but tell them if they do, that would be violating the "plain view doctrine" and that will cost them their job. Then if they still insist to tow your car, demand for their superior to show up on the scene. Pull out your phone, record a video of the whole ordeal. Most likely, they will let you go because they dont have a probable cause but only a personal "reasonable suspicion". After the officer let you go, tell that pig ...
DEUCES SUCKA!!
I personally think that it's more worth it taking a exhaust ticket rather than having your hood popped and getting sent to state ref. CHP can take care of the exhaust tickets so they dont do a full inspection of your car.

Well at least with a vortech (if for some reason you're not carb legal) you can just remove it in a few hours before going to ref. Not so easy with turbo kits. If I lived in Cali again, I'd have a recirculating BOV and a quiet exhaust.
I just passed with flying colors...Vortech V2, DW 600 injectors, Walbro in tank, tuned via Uprev (I am running stock cats w/ HKS catback). The test is done at partial throttle only so your car will be running off oem map, not the Uprev tune (correct me if I am wrong). I was next door at the time but I don't think he even popped my hood. Even if they do pop your hood at the inspection, noone can tell you have any extras such as injectors, in tank, or uprev tune.

Like you said, can't really tell of any "extras" cuz everything is basically out of sight. I've been in Cali for a month now, I've been putting off registering the cars
Yeah I am in Southern California.
PM me and we'll discuss more

Nice! Now, are you in California? If so, where did you go to get the smog check? We've got almost the exact same setup, except for maybe the Stage0 fuel return. I had my installer hide the fuel regulator in the battery cubby. With the cover on it, no one will know

It was his idea to mount it there. Plus, it's not next to the battery, it's under the battery cover, you have to take the whole cover off (not just the removable door) to get to the regulator. It looked pretty safe to me, plus Frank installed it, I trust it will hold.
