Fully Built Engine

I found a Fully built Z1 Motorsports Stage 2 Engine for sale, I can pick it up for $2000. Brand new, never used.

Good deal yes?

Now questions are, what is the average price I can expect to pay to have it installed? What is the average time to put it in? This is JUST the shortblock, so youll have to transfer everything over.

What else should I replace while I am doing it?\

Can this engine be ran with the tune I have right now? or will have to get it retuned to drive it with the power IM at now with the Momentum.

I dont have a Fuel return just yet, so I cant use the engine for the full potential. But I figured at the price of the engine, I should pick it up anyways.

It will cost a fair chunk of change to get it made into a longblock, with new head gaskets and APR L19 head studs and the timimg set. While your at it you might as add a set of cams everything is apart and the timing needs to be done anyway doing cams later while the engine is in the car is a huge pain in the **** and alot more money so it is way cheaper to do it while doing the engine assembly. I can do a full swap with twin turbos and everything in a week end I would expect a shop to take minimum 40hrs to pull your engine swap everything over to the new engine and have it back in. I would also have the heads plained to be sure they are perfectly flat. You would likely need a retune depending on the compression of the new motor (likely lower) but I would bet it would still be very drivable just running a little rich.

Thankfully it comes with headstuds and HR gaskets lol.
Can I reuse the timing chain, water pump etc? What about Oil pump should I upgrade? I dont plan on doing cams.

I just want a 500whp daily.

Honestly though you're looking at at least $3000 in labor, everyone debates this fiercely but I would not do cams, you'll have no trouble hitting that with a built bottom end.
I would do all new gaskets n seals, new revup oil pump, inspect the other parts and replace if needed but typically the timing components don't wear out so easily.

You will need a RFS to hit 500 tho, and again +1 on a retune. Even with the
Exact same parts on paper two motors may run very differently in real life

I'm pretty sure he meant to pull his engine and swap his heads/accessories over

Why tear a good engine apart when you can get a set of bad azz heads to use instead

Like seymore said we could debate cams or not for ever and give examples both ways. My though is the engine is apart timing needs to be set so why not. If you are on a super tight budget and know you will never want more power...don't bother. A built engine with stock cams is like jerking off with a condom on, sure it does the trick but it is not as good. Put a set of JWT S1s and JWT springs and rev it to 7,000. You won't ever say " I wish I didn't put cams in" but you get a year down the road and think "I should have done them when everything was apart".

Get an independent builder to measure everything and send you a spec sheet. Even if Z1 has blueprinted the short block and can send you the data it might be worthwhile to get it verified. Only way to know it's been done right.

K, So funny stories.

I found this engine on Kijiji Toronto.
It was listed for $3500.. Which by itself is believable.. Because obviously your going to take a hit if you sell it.
So, I talked him down to $2000, then to $1900.
Well I did my due diligence, by calling Z1, finding order dates etc etc.

This is what I found out about this engine.
Engine was paid for by a stolen credit card, so card owner got charge back, Z1 sent a free engine.
Because they are in the US, and this was in Canada. Its hard for them to persue any criminal matter.

I called Z1, ended up giving the Guy all the info I got, address, phone number, name etc etc. So hopfully now the police can do their job.

I offered to buy it back and send it back to them, but it was too much money into it.

Well, ok fine, I feel like a dirtbag for saying this.

I would feel uncomfortable for buying a stolen engine that was bought by fraudulent means for $2000.

So I told him I knew everything and I offered him $1500 lol... you know, for $1500 the uncomfortable feeling goes away a bit.

he wrote back.
That's very nice of you. I wanna see your connecting rods break or bend since you dont have build engine "hahaha"
Also I wana see my G35 coupe with twin turbo tuned to 700 WHP race U "hahahaha"
You can order it from Z1, Mine isnt stolen.

If you plan on doing F/I i would advise to get new stuff and upgrade the oil pump to the rev-up..

Hate it for the guys at Z1. They're a terrific shop with a stellar reputation.
