Nice prototype TT pics

Y'all need to take a look at what popped up at the my350z forum. You can almost feel the power emanating from them.

Re: Nice prototype TT pics

thanks for sharing JDMAN. Ya I go to my350 to check out all the goodies once in a whiile, but that one slipped by.

I can't friggen wait to get one installed. I'm trying to be patient till all the bugs are worked out and make sure the car is still going to be street reliable. And for the issue of Mods vs. ECU to be worked out. I heard even the Greddy turbo car is only doing about 350hp on 5lbs of boost. They can't get it past 5lbs.

The picture of the TT G35 looks very nice. The only thing that worries me is that the front portion of the G35C blocks a lot of air to the intercooler, where as the 350Z has the bigger opening in the front to allow more cool air to reach the intercooler.

I would agree

To mount a good intercooler you need airflow and even in basic terms the G35c does not have the right front bumper to put an intercooler in.

Re: Nice prototype TT pics

using a supercharger or turbo's you will still need an intercooler.

There are different types of intercoolers however.

1) air to air- such as you see in that pic which requires alot of airflow to keep it cool. Greater thermal efficency when traveling at higher speed and its cheaper

2) Water to air- Better thermal efficency at lower speeds, more $, heavier, more complex, but can be packaged in much tigher areas because water and aluminum have a much higher coefficent of heat transfer so the intercoolers can be made smaller.

Re: Nice prototype TT pics

I was under the impression that low-boost efficient superchargers didn't raise the air temp enough to worry about adding an intercooler.

Yea, low-boost superchargers don't require an intercooler, for example the Buick Regal GS and the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP doesn’t have an intercooler. It’s maximum boost is about 7.5psi.

Re: Nice prototype TT pics

not having an intercooler is an economic choice rather than a performance choice.

An intercooler will help even at 7.5psi however its percentage gain is lower than that of a higher boost application.

In the end, its up to what you want, you want to do it right or do it cheap.

When manufacturers decide to go without an IC it is a bean counters decision rather than an engineers decision.

Re: Nice prototype TT pics

True, they go with out the intercooler to keep the costs down. Also they probably don’t want a 280+ HP Buick Regal, because they would have to upgrade the tranny, use bigger brakes, and upgrade certain engine components to handle the extra power reliably and safely, thus pushing the price up wards.
