VQ35DE 5AT G35 Build (Dynosty)

Hi all,

I have not been around for some time as my G has been garaged for a little while. The motor finally let loose after about 85K (on the vortech) on the stock internals so I am getting a build done by Dynosty. After reading many horror threads about builds and how wrong they can go I wanted to find a reliable place to handle this for me so that is why I selected Dynosty to do the job. They have a great rep, they answer the phones and do not mind answering questions that I feel I have even asked before.

I have a Vortech SC and was putting down 366 WHP / 315TQ (SS box tuned) with the 3.12 pulley. After this build I will be upgrading to the 2.87 pulley as the motor will be able to easily handle that. I am not looking for 'big power' hence the Vortech and no longer drive like a teenager so if I am right around 400 after this build I will be plenty happy with that and she should last a good long time since I will be no where near stressing the limits of this motor.

I will be trashing the SS Box in favor of a Osiris Uprev tune as well...

Here is my build list:

-Dynosty Stage 1 Short Block, includes CP Pistons, ARP Main Studs, ACL
bearings, Align Hone, Magnaflux and Micropolish Crank, Balance and Blueprint, Bore
and Hone with Torque Plate, Deck, Wash and Pro Assembly

-Manley Turbo Tuff Rods Upgrade
-Head Refresh Package, includes Valve Job, Mill, Adjust Valves, Clean and Pressure
Check. Includes new OEM valve seals.
-ARP L19 Head Studs
-Dynosty Pro Seal VQ35 Stopper Head Gasket Kit, 96mm
-Complete Engine Assembly (includes cleaning core components, assembly of timing
systems, oil pans)
-Nissan Oil Pump, 350Z Revup
-Dynosty Custom VQ Engine Build Gasket Kit, using Nissan parts, complete w/ new rear
main seal, intake and exhaust manifold gaskets, etc
-VQ35 Billet Main Girdle, with adaption for stock windage tray
-Nissan 350Z Rear Coolant Bypass Kit
-Nissan VQ35DE ATI Super Damper Balancer
-NGK Iridium Spark Plug, 1 step colder
-Injector Dynamics 725cc Injectors
Will also do a TransGo kit and TQ converter.

Now all I have to do is find a good shop here in the Phx area to do the install without headaches... That has been a challenge thus far to the point I am considering putting the G on a trailer and sending her to Dynosty to have them take care of it start to finish... However that is very expensive and my budget it stretching as it is. I have a couple more places to call and go check out locally here and I hope to find a place I am comfortable with touching my 'baby' ...

Here is her picture for those that do not remember her...

Thanks! I believe this is one of very few Chrome Rotora BBK's out there. They only produced a very limited number before they stopped offering them. Not sure why they stopped as I LOVE them and they stop on a damn dime!

Here are a couple more pics of the BBK / Wheels

From this pic you can see how the insert of the wheel is actually on the inside of the BBK, now that's cutting it close!

Thanks, probably not on the paddle shifters, no real need at this time...

Yes on the valve body, I am looking at the TransGo kit. I have already upgraded the torque converter and a valve grade is a must so the trans holds up.

Stock clutch packs with the TC? Which one did you go with?

To tell ya the truth... Not sure... It was when my dad was in the hospital and I needed a quick fix. At 98K miles she was slipping pretty bad so I took her to AAMCO of all places to get it fixed up and had them do it... Just checked the reciept and it says "High preformance torque converter" for $550.00 .... So when I get the TransGo kit put in I will have it checked out to make sure it is good to go. I kind of feel like an idiot for not digging into it deeper at the time but due to the circumstances I just needed to get her back on the road.

Actually, VB upgrade has nothing to do with your stock trans holding up... aftermarket TC or not. Clutchpacks is clutchpacks- metal is metal.

The VB upgrade will help take the slush out of your shifting but won't help the packs bind any tighter and won't gain any resilience to incrased TQ.

You want to strengthen your AT- then the answer isn't as easy as a 250 dollar VB upgrade pack plus install (700 bucks or so)... plus AT cooler (as I saw in your thread on 350z you are planning on already anyway). If you're staying stock, you might consider the larger fluid pan as well... you're going to need all the help you can get.

For your goals, you are right on the threshold of the Stock trans. Keep it cool- VERY cool if all you're planning on doing for it is the VB upgrade.

Not being sassy- I'm fighting the AT war myself... so you might as well know what you're in for. I think Resmarted in 350z has a stock trans with some new clutchpacks that he never used... I'd be thinking hard about that if I were you.

The torque converter has a chance of slipping after a while, I had to replace mine within 8 months. Currently have an Edge Racing TC and its working good so far.

Thanks guys, good to be back!

Motor is out of the machine shop now and waiting to get built. May be a little bit as the compression ratio was set to go with 8.5:1 off the shelf pistons but I just emailed Hal @ Dynosty and requested to go with 10.3:1 which may take 4 weeks to get in... I am willing to wait because the 8.5's would be way to low in my opinion for a Supercharger and patience is important to make sure it runs the way I want her to.
