Oh-- one other thing. Don't even think of getting a turbo unless you plan on spending thousands to beef up your engine internals. Turbo is a very peaky form of FI and way more dangerous to engine parts than SC. Stay away from it unless you have mucho buckos.

Except at idle, 14.7 is def too high for the blown G. I'm assuming you meant that 14.7 was your AFR below you SC'ed?

Vortech right out of the box will run just fine installed on stock G, without any tuning or ECU flash. Once you start adding other mods, headers, cats, plenum, etc., you may need to get it tuned and possibly send your ECU to TechnoSquare.

Question

ok,ok, now, say i slapped the tech on and then i put on exhuast, headers, cats, and then put IN nismo/jwt cams, rods, piston heads. will i be able to push/be safe, to/at 500 rwhp? if not, what will i need to do to achieve this on a vortech?

You really don't need any mods with an SC...maybe, just a new exhaust if you want a bolder sound. You'll have more than enough power without mods and will make the Vortech stock tune less safe. In particular, plenum mods are pretty worthless because under boost the slight difference in plenum height front to back is obliterated. The only reason to change the plenum under NA is to get more power, but you won't notice any significant difference with a blower attached.

Even with the blower, most of the time you are operating under vacuum where AFR is just about identical to stock NA. Therefore, cruising down the highway and any normal driving, you're at about stoich (14.7) most of the time. There's no reason for enrichment until boost happens. The moment you put the pedal to the metal, AFR drops right down, first to 14, then lower and lower as RPMs and boost ramp up. This results from a combination of the SS timing box, the FMU responding to boost in the vacuum system, and the aux fuel pump ramping up fuel pressure to the fuel rails. The timing box keeps it all smooth and linear and also retards timing in order to prevent detonation.

I was planning to get my car dynotuned, but it's running so sweet out of the box, I almost think it's not worth it and will only make the system less safe.

The VQ35DE engine is very safe with 360 rwhp or less (about 410 crank HP). After that, if you don't go forged, you're taking a big risk. Just search the boards for all the engine failure stories. Get yourself a built engine, then you can run intake and exhaust mods and go with a smaller pulley. The only mods I'd recommend are big fat tires to put the power down to the pavement, and, maybe, a stronger clutch depending on how crazy you drive. I went with NISMO wheels and I'm waiting for spring to put them on. Just get your Vortech in for now and see how you like it as is, IMHO.

No, no plenum mods...it will give you a lean condition...leave everything on the Vortech system sytock abnd you'll be fine to drive the car HARD...

The priority and total focus for the moment is the G35 Twin Turbo system, the testing should be completed by the end of March if all goes to plan .

Development and testing will then start on the single turbo system to suit the G35, if this proves to work as well as the APS single turbo for the Z car then I think it's very possible that a single turbo system will be released for the G35, I certainly hope so.

Thanks

Peter
