True. $1600 for cams + install. This hobby is expensive.

I'm not sure why you state this power figure as all of the testing we have completed in the US and Oz is nearly identical, around 370 to 380 WHP is the real power figure.

Thanks

Peter

I thought that 330whp number was a bit low but decided not to argue. Peter, thank you for clearing things up.

Bottom line is our auto trannies were not designed for that power and will give up sooner or later without proper upgrades.

No problem, Yeah that 330 WHP figure is very low, the lowest we've seen on our dyno at APS is 376 WHP and our dyno is test calibrated monthly so I'm sure our quoted power figures are dead accurate.

I don't have any experience with the Z auto though after talking with many of our dealers in the US who have lots of experience with the Z auto trans (guys like SGP in Houston) I'm positive that the auto will need upgrading (a VB mod at minimum to increase line pressure) to speed up the gear shifts.

From past experience I've had with autos if you continue to allow the auto to flair on gear shift the auto clutches will be damaged for sure, it's only a matter of time.

Thanks

Peter

Peter,
I stated " out of box " on a stock Z or G. Yes Im aware of the #'s your getting in OZ. Talked with couple aps dealers in So.Cal, and actual #'s are only around 330rwhp, with 91 octane here in Cali, on "STOCK " Z, thats out of box, not tuned. So did Roshan from Brainstorm and Sam from GT, misinformed me? Obviously once tuned, you will get more HP and or adding true-dual exhaust will get more HP, but not everyone will be able to locate qualified unichip tuner. I was only stating with 330whp, maybe you dont need to have a VB upgrade.

Actually the case with TT, you need tranny upgrades not based on how much whp you have but on how much torque you're making and how fast it comes. Let's say you're making 380wtq at about 3500rpm, that's only ~250whp, yet it is enough to destroy the tranny within months if not weeks of use.

The only APS TT I personally saw on the dyno made 430whp on stock 91 octane tune. JWT S1 cams, flywheel and Nismo exhaust were the only other upgrades.

Does $699.00 sound like alot to "upgrade?" I'm looking to do the "STILLEN VB UPGRADE" 1st, but I don't know alot about this mod, will it make that big of difference? I mean 700.00 is slight compaired to a new tranny!

The 350Z TT cars that I know in So.Cal are making around 360 to 370 WHP on 91 0ctane fuel, I've never seen or heard of any Z car making 330 WHP with a TT system.

True and I would expect that most guys will run a TD exhaust system in conjunction with an APS TT system, that would be my recommendation for sure.

You may be correct there, I just don't have enough experience with the auto to make an absolute comment though I'd go for a VB just to be on the safe side.

Thanks

Peter

I have an 04 5AT and had my VB done by level 10. The mod is worth it! I plan on upping my hp in the future but not sure if i want to spend the money for FI. Anyway, my shifts are now a lot firmer and quicker. I can't chirp the tires though. With the VB upgrade, the 5AT tranny went from holding about 350 max at the crank to about 450 - 500 at the wheels. The TC is upgrade is not really necessary. I def recommend this mod, it makes the car much more fun to drive.

Thanks for posting your review on VB mod.

Whats OT??? Anyway, i paid $1500 with the install. Not the best bang for your buck, but i look at it as an investment. 1500 or 5000 for new tranny (I had to talk myself into it).
