A couple questions about APS w/ AT

I posted a question about "estimate" run times a 2004.5AT could run with APS's TT kit.

A good question was asked.......

Can you put the APS kit on an AT ?
Can an AT handle the supposed 350-400HP ?

If (no) what has to be done to the Trans, for the TT kit?

Yes you can put APS TT on a 5AT. No problem at all. If your G is totally stock, out the box APS will only get you around 330rwhp, another 30whp more if you replace stock exhaust with a true dual exhaust. Peter does suggest you get a Valve Body upgrade either through Level 10 or Stillen, but its not necessary, unless your planning to do more mods to get more HP, then you should get the VB upgrade and possibly the Torque Converter upgrade, either through Level 10, Edge racing or Pro Torque. Just VB with TC upgrade alone will improve 1/4 mile time nearly a full second. If your planning on adding more mods ( cams, cats, manifold, etc. ), make sure you have a qualified unichip tuner in your area.

Forgot to mention, there is someone on this forum " Kamal ", which has the SSR TT kit on his 5AT. Has stock tranny, and dynoed at 402rwhp. He's had the TT kit for over a year with no problems. Appears 5AT tranny can handle alot of HP. I've also heard you can send your ECU to TS to raise the rev limiter to 7100.

Incase no one responds to your post. Only guys I know on this forum is " DFWG35 " did his through Level 10 and " DSSKYLINE " done at Stillen. PM those guys they should be able to answer your Q's. Also several guys at my350z.com has done the VB upgrade.

also, SGP racing in Houston can modify your transmission to withstand up to 800-1000 hp, if you so desire

After upgrading to the APS ST later this year, I plan on doing the VB upgrade (but leaving the TC stock - I won't need a higher stall speed with 400whp) - But the 5AT tranny, by what I've read, is pretty stout from the factory - no one with F/I has had any complaints that I've read about...

I think I can get away without doing the TC - I'm only at 350 rwhp so mine will be fine. Doing the VB upgrade will give me faster shifts right? ie bump/shift instead of bump/pause/shift?

I believe that you are correct about the "faster shift response" with the VB upgrade. If you PM the user TLUV, he also has the stillen VB on his nitrous'd G. I also read that TINMAN has a completely reworked AT. . .you might want to ask hime about what he actually did, since I haven't hear/read any details about it.

Some AT users have stated that the grounding gear kits have improved shift response to a certain degree. . .but I don't think that it would be better than the VB upgrade. It may be worth while to do both. . .but again I haven't read anything about anyone who has both a VB kit and grounding kit.

Final words: when all else fails, try PMing Q45Tech. I love that guy and all his knowledge. lol He's a G-cyclopedia.

Are you sure? We fried frictions with ~370whp in 4 months. Tranny did have aftermarket cooler.
I think stock valve body doesn't provide enough pressure to prevent frictions slip with FI.

APS kit out of box is only 330rwhp on Stock G, so stock VQ and tranny should be fine. As stated if you add more mod to get more HP, then its best to either have a VB upgrade and or built-up the tranny. Theres several guys on my350z are FI and using stock VB, but most have a SC kit. TT kit have higher torque so its best to have VB done or built-up tranny. Tranny cooler does help.

I guess it all depends on how you drive it and how long you want your tranny to last. Level 10 is building us full tranny right now. TC, VB, reinforced frictions etc. $3900+core. We'll see how well it will hold up. 370whp was at 11psi. Shooting for 14psi this summer.

SFR does the same ( rebuild high performance transmission -upgraded high stall torque converter, etc. ) for around $3200. Level 10 does specialize in building performance tranny. That project should improve your 1/4 time nearly a full second. . Since your around 370, upgrade your cam to get around 400rwhp, and you would'nt have to boost that high.

It will be easier to just up the boost and tune emanage than swap out the cams. 8.5:1 CR

I did my reasearch, nobody other than Level 10 offered upgraded frictions. Since the car is on a different continent, we need something bulletproof.
