My Project.G

This is what's going on with my G as of today...

3 Angle Valve Job
Vortech Supercharger
Technosquare "L-Spec Flash" (Highly Recommended,Especially for Auto Trannys)
Edge Racing Torque Converter
Resonated Test Pipes

Car won't be done til another 3-4 weeks, Lead time on the Vortech is 2 weeks not including shipping time.

Questions:

1. What kinda numbers (hp/tq) do you think I'll be putting down?

2. What do you think my est. 1/4 mile time will be?

3. Any tips or suggestions I should take into consideration? Thanks.

It all depends on the track and elevation your at . But you'll see any where from a 13.0 to a 13.5 . With no tuning...rwhp from 300 to 350 with a AT5

if you go to www.dfwg35.com, you'll see that Tommy acheived a 12 sec run on street tires with his AT Vortech G...now, he has QUITE a FEW other mods, but none the less...fastest I've ran is a 13.2 on street tires...Booger ran a 12 sec b4 BBOOOMMMM! Right, Boog?

I wouldn't expect a 12 sec run on street tires with a 6MT...it's too hard to control that power without wheel hopping or spinning through 1st and 2nd and the bottom of 3rd...or maybe I'm just a bad driver!

Expect to see around 365-385 rwhp with the stock/tuned setup...

G352NV: With your 20" chromes I'd be surprised if you can hit the low 13's. I would expect 13.4 range. Heavy wheels make a huge difference and the further that weight is from the hub the worse it gets.

Good estimation...fastest I've ran with my 19's was a 13.4 at 107 at CalSpdWay.

My chrome wheels are lighter then the stock 18's Funny how people think cause the face and lip are chrome that they weigh a ton. We'll see in a couple days.

It's not that they're chrome. It's that their mass is further from the hub. It's the whole leverage/see-saw thing. Think about how difficult it would be to lift a weight up using your shoulder only while holding the weight in your hand. Now think about how much easier it would be to lift the weight if you attached it to your elbow.

I've got 19" black chrome J8's that are lighter than stock, even with the wider lip. Problem is that the weight if further from the center of the wheel.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, it's just that I remember going to the track expecting to run 12's and how dissapointed I was that I couldn't. Let us know how you do!

Naw I hearya, I just HOPE to get in the 12's!! Ive heard a big problem with getting in the 12's is tire spin. Wouldnt the bigger wheels stop a lot of that? a lot more anyway?

That's where you get the trade-off: wider tires for more grip vs. more mass further from the hub.

Think about the full-on strip cars you've seen - typically they have a 16" super light rim and lots of rubber around it. This keeps the overall weight down and keeps that mass close to the hub. The extra rubber also allows them to decrease the tire pressure to increase the contact patch with the road. I'm not sure how much pressure you can take out of 20's without worrying about pinching the tire or dinging your rim. I do know that with the stock 18's I could bring the pressure down to 20 psi.

Steve, when you say your chrome rims are lighter, are you just comparing the rims? Remember, the bigger tirews needed add to the over all weight and then of course like Pimp mentioned, there's an inertia loss (rotational mass). I'd expect to see a 13.4-5 from you at the best...but not get pissed if you get even higher...this is a whole new beast and it'll probably take you a while to master it.
