Transmission suggestions for AT Single Turbo Set Up

I'm thinking of going with a custom single turbo set up similiar to Skyline 350GT. Brandon, if you read this, you're most welcome to chime in. Spoke to Jason over at Velocity performance about the setup. Pretty nice, and I like the fact that they are in town vs. an APS setup. FYI I'm weighing this decision vs. getting a used 2003 or so M3.

Couple of questions/tips needed:

Target: 375-390hp, Torque: 350 ftlbs.
Car: 5AT 2005
Purpose: Daily Driver

My concerns are: 1) tranny 2) rods and piston long term reliability

1) I'll prolly do the ECU flash and the valve body upgrade. Any auto Gs out there with a turbo setup? What are the limits of the tranny for longevity?

2) Is the torque target too high? Are the block and pistons/rods strong enough to take this level over the long run?

Any tips are welcome.

Thanks in advance,

with your target HP & Torque,i think just about any kit will do.without the need of upgrading tranny, rods, piston,ECU flash.
as far as the limits of the tranny longevity, hard to say because some FI cars running more than a year without any problem and there're NA cars that fried the tranny.
your torque and HP target are not too high.i think it a happy medium number.you gain lots of performance and don't have to spend more money on upgrade.the question is can you stay there?
Kamal has his kit on more than a year and mine is 5-6 months.both of us are Speed Force Racing TT and both are 5AT.
hope that help.good luck

Tinman,

Thanks for your input Tin. I've checked out your car and its very tastefully and thoughtfully done.

About the bug, yeah, I'm aware lol. Slippery slope I'm on, but coming from an S4, I feel that the G is a little wanting in the power department. Hopefully, this will keep my urges down for the next couple of years.

Its reassuring to hear that the numbers I'm aiming for aren't absurd. I was toying with trying for trying to get close to 400hp, but keeping the torque at 350 or so.

My suggestions:

1) do a valve body upgrade to slow clutch pack wear. I hav about 18k miles on the car with my TT, and I my tranny is saying it's good buys... no VB mod.

2) Rods, hmmm.. that's the $64k question. well even if the answer is no (as in, the rods are too weak), i do not think it's worth doing the engine ahead of time. If something happens, do it then, with (hopefully) a moderate cost hit over a new build.

Gurgen,

Thanks for the comments.

1) Yeah, looks like I'll do the valve body.
2) Makes sense.

To complicate issues, I saw a 2004 M3 with <4k miles asking for $47500 with everything but nav and 19s lol. Grrr.. sigh . Time to think.
