ATI Supercharger kit available for G35 Coupe!
Re: ATI Supercharger kit available for G35 Coupe!
Yeah, but then what do you do with the supercharger? Unless you're buying another G (or a Z), it's gonna be worthless. Trying to sell it through swap meets or on eBay (used) will be tough.
As for warranties, keep in mind one thing people:
Unless Nissan / Nismo comes out with something you can have installed at the dealer and expressly states that it does not void the factory warranty on the engine / drivetrain, you're throwing your warranty out the window. Guaranteed!
The ATI kit looks sharp, and I'd imagine that it'll work quite well, without significantly shortening engine life (presuming you still drive the car with respect and don't beat the ever-lovin' snot out of it), but mark my words - the warranty ATI offers is ONLY ON THE KIT - your engine warranty WILL BE VOIDED!!

I gotta say it, Loren that's a good job of explaining it all to us novices. Well, some of us, like me. But I agree with Conquie and probably some of the other non-all out street dudes do too. That is, it's nice to see someone take the time and effort to put out product for the G and Z. But besides shortening to some extent engine life, that warranty thing is def G-O-N-E.
Now, if you could get this sold thru Infiniti or NISMO, that'd probably be a different story. But I'm with some of the other posters; I'm gonna wait til I can find something that boosts power but doesn't void my warranty. And if that means waiting for NISMO or some such, I guess I'll have to wait.
But thanks for the complete explanation. And I think the other posters on this issue are to be commended as well.

Re: ATI Supercharger kit available for G35 Coupe!
The ATI kit is intercooled , the Stillen is not.
The intercooler allows you to a) run more boost
and/or b) run more timing on the same octane. A twin screw
runs much cooler than a roots blower (similar to a centrifigal , but still benefits significantly with intercooling.
Main issue with Stillen is it needs to punch thru the hood.
With ATI , it is as simple to take off as put on, witout a trace . So if you have a warranty issue, what SC , I never had no stinkin SC....
PS... I have installed a few SCs on different vehics. Twin Screws are the bomb , but more so on trucks were you need the torque way down lowwwwww.
Also with the ATI kit a simple Water injection setup (extra charge cooling) should easily allow an addtional 2PSI on 91 pump gas, and still be very reliable, and keep your chambers nice and shiny.
Issue with aftermarket turbo systems, they "can" deliver more efficinet power , but the setup is far more complex (more plumbing exhaust etc). and would definately void factory warranty "regardless" what the AM vendor claims.

Re: ATI Supercharger kit available for G35 Coupe!
Laren04coupe's post is pretty much right on the mark.
However; note that as each year goes by the factory exhaust systems are compelled to be made more efficent due to econmy an CARB regulations. So don't expect as much of a gain from the exhaust (even when boosted) as once was possible . In many case you may jsut break even. So far I have seen dyno tests with afew catback systems on the 350Z and gains were nil.
It is always recommended that you visit your friendly neighborhood dyno-man to baseline you stock setup , and then
run comps per modifiction to verify that you got your money worth ( and still meeet emission) and not hype...

Re: ATI Supercharger kit available for G35 Coupe!
TX_G35, note that the ATI kit uses a cogged belt system, "not typical" which will pretty much eliminatate belt slip issues.
What inevitably will limit how high the boost in this app is compression and available fuel . at 10.5:1 it does start out with a dis-advantage over a purpose built bottom end. As for how rugged the factory bottom-end is, time will tell. With the
rapid availability of aftermarket for the G and Z , I expect we'll hear how far they can be pushed pretty soon.

Re: ATI Supercharger kit available for G35 Coupe!
Well Conquie, I can answer some of yours and others questions with my own experience. I bought the very first production Stillen Maxima kit back in 1998. On my 10:1 compression Maxima, I started with the 6.5 psi it came with. After a couple of years of fuel, intake and exhaust upgrades plu pulley changes, I was running 9.5 psi. That was on pump gas(91-93 octane). I had no problems with this setup for driveability. I put the kit on the car only a year after buying it new. I had problems associated with the kit(Stillen's poor engineering) that I fixed myself.
I had my dealer put a new clutch in, but they didn't adjust it right. I ended up correcting the adjustment myself. The car wasn't shifting right. A couple of weeks later, I lost 3rd gear completely and I could not get into either first or second. Believe it or not, I was able to get the car home using 4th, 5th and 6th. I had about 1 psi of boost off idle, so there was neough torque I could start in 4th gear. I did get into a pissing match with the service manager. They blamed the SC before even looking at the problem. I got Nissan corporate involved and everyone agreed to have another dealer do the inspection. They tore down the tranny and found every tooth on the 3rd gear was gone. The opinion of the mechanic was that the tranny was overheated. Could the SC cause this, no. We know it wasn;t run dry. They we found out that there was ATF in the tranny. When they installed the clutch, the drained out my MT-90 and put in the wrong weight of fluid. This burned it out. In the end, I was comped a brand-new tranny that was installed under warranty(no the dealer that made the mistake didn't have to pay for it). So everything ended up as it should under law.
You should talk to your dealer's service department to find out how they would deal with a car with aftermarket parts on it. The federal law is that the manufacturer has to prove the failure of the part or assembly was caused by the modification. They can't legally refuse to work on it. If they do, get it in writing. They immediately file under a BBB arbitration or Texas Lemon Law. They have to work on the vehicle to fix the problem or they will automatically lose the arbitration. It is a win-win sinerio. It is better though it you have a dealer that is straight with you from the start.
Next, what if your decide to sell the car and remove it? Well you will be surprised at how many people will be interested in your used kit. I did sell the SC off my Maxima. I only sold it or about $500 less than I paid for the kit, but I did have a couple hundred dollars of improvements in it. I had 5 serous buyers in 12 hours. Unfortunately, the typical Maxima owner is not as wealthy as the typical G35 owner. I had serveral responses from people who want to pay in installments or wanted me to hold onto it for a couple months until they had the money. It was sold with no haggling a week later. I probably had 20 people contact me before I shipped it and I only advertised 1 for sale ad on the Maxima forums.
The question is will I be adding boost to this one like I have in the past? I will talk to my dealer about it...

Re: ATI Supercharger kit available for G35 Coupe!
Thanks for the intelligent post Loren! I have been trolling the Supercharger/turbo posts for awhile and have noticed a lot of azz talking. Seems people like to feel intelligent about something they have no REAL knowledge OR experience with. Your story adds credibility to what I and SEMA has said along......it's the manufactures responsibilty to prove the part caused the damage, not the other way around. Thanks again bro!

Re: ATI Supercharger kit available for G35 Coupe!
Please keep in mind, I haven't even seen one installed ... ON ANYTHING so bear with me here dudes....
Now lets assume I put one on... and all is good for a good period of time ... I have my fun, it "works" in through daily driving and full out beats now and again.
2 part question
What can really "go wrong" from the application of the SC?
and
more importantly,
IF I was to remove it like earlier suggested after a "blow up", what sort of tell tale signs would a experienced person/mechanic be able to find that would indicate I had one blew er and took it off, looking to get it fixed?
back to my first question .. meaning if the "xxx" blew up ..
(Joe mechanic says) "that could only happen from a SC and I can see bolt marks and a little bit of SC oil drippage on the frame"
you know what I saying?

Re: ATI Supercharger kit available for G35 Coupe!
Unless the mechanic is an @$$ and wanted to really try to prove a point it will be VERY difficult. That is if you do not install the SC correctly and there are a lot of modifications like bending, replacing and cuttting of stock parts.
Another factor is the owner. By that I mean the power gets addicting and they want more without knowing how to do so correctly. The Procharger is a selfcontained unit as said before so with the 'stock' settings of the kit there should not be any 'blowup' problems. If done correctly, installation, maintenance and not going overboard what the car and the SC can take, there will not be a problem.
if you are worried about the warranty when you have the enjoyment of the power, then do not modify your cars? It is up to each individual if they want to 'blowup' their cars and try and get it fixed under warranty. Not condoning the practise, just saying it is up to each owner's ethics.
If you cannot install and uninstall yourself and do the maintenance or afford to pay for it, don't do any mods, just enjoy the "G" the way it is.
