Question for the F.I. Guys.....
After riding behind a Single turbo supra on the way to work this morning, i hav made up my mind that I AM going to turbo my G at some point in the next 6-8 months. I came to this conclusion after hearing the blow-off valve scream wit hevery shift - what an incredible sound!!!
Now i know the reason to go FI is for more power (duh) and that is obviously my number 1 reason for doing so, BUT, what type of setup (TT, ST, make, model, etc) will provide me with the loudest BOV sound? I reallly want a reliable system, and will run a very conservative boost level (6-8psi), but was wondering what system/setup would give me all of that + the loudest BOV noise....
Sorry if this sounds "boy-racer-ish" but i just REALLy love that sound...

You can always replace the BOV with another that you like. Check the link below.

So im guessing that a ST def has a louder "ppppsssshhh" than a TT?
and the BOVs are interchangeable??? Will this affect the perf and reliability of the kit?
What are some notoriously loud BOV's???? HKS? Greddy? APS?

Having said that, I think it's EXTREMELY BAD to say that the APS ST and the Turbonetics ST are both "extremely reliable". Reliability, by definition, means that it's capable of being dependable or that it yields the same or compatible results in different clinical experiments or statistical trials.
This means that the system is tried and proven over time to be safe for the engine. Since APS has just hit the shores of the US with their ST and turbonetics hasn't been around for a whole lot longer, I'd hold off on any reliable comments just yet. How well does the ECU reflash work for all cars? What happens with extreme temp swings? (like the ones in the mid west we've had lately.) How much boost at low rpms can our rods take with either of these set ups?
After several years, I'm just starting to associate the word 'reliable' with the word Vortec... YMMV
Agree with Neffs comment. Too early to state how reliable both the Tnetics and APS ST will be. Ive been holding-off on my APS TT install for almost a month now, decided to wait, since the smoking issues came out. Have considered other kits because of that. APS TT, I do feel is the most complete kit out of box. Problem with these FI kits, is the engine management systems, our ecu sometimes freak out or dont work to well with these piggy back units. Stillen SC seems reliable, no history of blown engines. The high price and required hood replacement, is not a favorite choice from most looking for FI kits. Vortech SC, with its good rhwp gains and moderate torque gains, is pretty reliable. Not as much torque power as the turbo kits, but will probably save your engine from any damage. If you replace the Split Second box with the HKS V Pro ( true stand alone engine management system ) then the Vortech would be a very reliable FI kit on a stock VQ engine..... IMO.

Since you want to F reliability and power, I think you should consider going this route:

What a bargain! $17.95!!! And you will still have the reliability of a stock motor. ;-)

OK... First of all, yes we do not know which kit is more reliable, assuming that such a question is amply valid to begin with. All we can say now with respect to the two ST kits is that, and this is not only a matter of opinion but also fact, the APS ST kit is FAR FAR better engineered than the Turbonetics one. I'll make a quick point on this: you do not want to have anything that gets into the 1600-1800 degree heat range anywhere inside (much less whered TN puts it) the engine compartment. APS's placement is far more superior...that is exactly where yo want it to be, right where the heat is easily dissipated by the air under the car.
Gotta run... ttys
