That's why I listed the phone number... it's apparently a secret.

Don't.

Find someplace less tacky and more classy to mount your guages....

Ok, where are you mounting them? I'm considering switching to a "heads up" display Defi makes (doesn't have boost) and installing a boost gauge in between the rpm and speedo.

I dunno...i personally like the gauge pod and it is pratical. You can't really see your gauges if you mount them anywhere else, at least not when you are beating the ship out of the car and have to keep you eyes on the road.

+1

The only other practical place is on the dash.......there's no way I'm chopping my dash for gauges.

Once the car is tuned the guages are not require for everyday driving. You don't need to see them. The only thing I use mine for is if I think there is something wrong. I also occasionally check my a/f, but I'm only worried about it at WOT, and I don't drive the car that hard everyday.

On a $40,000 coupe witha roofline as aggressive as ours I think it looks very tacky, but, that is my personal opinion, and why I custom mounted all my guages in the center consoe arm rest. I can still see them when I need to, or I can have someone else watch them, but I don't have to deal with looking at them. It also helps with the sleeper look that I think is necessary to have a car of this caliber.

If you like the way the guage pos looks go for it! Check out Car Stereo One or TAS Electronics and see if they have a fiberglass guy. They could custom build you an A pillar for fairly cheap. There used to be a guy named Tom at the Circuit City on Airport highway that was pretty good with 'glass too (I used to work there when I went to BGSU 3 years ago) Custom fiberglass work usually isn't as much as people think its going ot be.

I have to disagree with you when you say that after the car is tuned you will not have to watch your gauges on a regular basis. Here are some scenarios that can happen which could cause engine castastrophy if you don't react appropriately.

1. You loose fuel pressure (line breaks or what ever)
2. You get a boost spike because of a change in wheather, especially for guys like you that live in cold climates during the winter. In Miami it is usually averages 80 degrees in the winter, but we do see our ocassional 40-50 degrees. That is a 30-40 degree drop from the norm. That can affect how the car reacts.

Chances are though, unless you are stairing at your boost guage and not watching the road at all you won't catch a boost spike in time.

I'm not worried about fuel pressure because I have one pump in the stock location. If I lose fuel pressure I'll know quickly, much quicker then an a/f would tell me. I think the people running aux pumps should definately keep an eye constantly on fuel pressure and a/f because if you lose an aux pump you will have no idea.

Like I said, its all opinion, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I think guage pods look 'cool' in Honda Civics and Ford Mustangs, but have no place in a stylish, upper class interior. Also, keep in mind, that my car is intended to be my daily driver and I'm not always racing it. If it was a dedicated racing car then my opinions and beliefs would change.

Also, whenever I see another car with a guage pod I try to race them, and I'm sure the majority of people that are in to cars feel the same way. I don't want to deal with kids in Inegras pulling up and revving at me because they see I have a few guages.

Finally, the Unichip uses a MAP sensor to control the motor. If a boost spike does occur I would like to think that it would pull timing as necesarry to prevent any damage.

When I drive the car hard I always have the armrest open and I occasionlly will check it, when it is safe. I don't see it as much more of an inconvienence then pillar mounted.

I have also seen several other places to mount guages that were more functional (but less stealth) then my setup. Someone removed their ashtray and guages there and a few people have filled their empty navi cubby with them.
