Question Vortech rattle at idle???

My Vortech rattles like a biotch at idle........

It almost sounds like a bad bearing....???

Does anyone else's sound like this?

Granted, I only have less than 100 miles on it....does it get better as it gets broken in????

EVERYONES sounds like this. Yeah the first time I heard mine I was trippin! You can have the dealer raise the idle a bit and it will sound a little better. Also that cog pulley belt has a sweet spot, keep playing with it.

I guess I'd have to hear it, but mine doesn't 'rattle'. It makes a whine or low pitched noise but it doesn't sound like a rattle.

When is your trip to NC scheduled? Maybe you should just unhook the Split Second box, plug in the ECU and remove the main belt, drive to NC and have the pro's look at it. Just a thought...

I'd hate for you to have something happen before you get to really start enjoying things after your tuning session.

I'm planning on going up on Fri the 9th.

I think a lot of it is in the belt tensioning....like NV said.

My main belt is really tight right now but should streach out in the next 100 miles or so.

If it is a problem w/ the unit itself....it should be under warranty. I know I triple checked everything myself on the install.

I'm with Neff...mine doesnt rattle at all. Just a noisy whine...but no rattle. Maybe chalk one up to CP Racing.

Mine rattled. It only did it when the RPMS dipped below 600. The sound is the bearings in the blower. Like Steve said, just raise the idle if you have this problem. With I would turn on my a/c on the idle would bump it self so I would not hear it.

The rattle is normal at low idle and will go away just by turning on the AC thereby raising the idle slightly. You can't totally eliminate the rattle but you can adjust the cog belt to be loose but not too loose. You'll find a point when the rattle improves--but too tight and it makes an even worse noise. The right tightness is when the adjustment pulley is easy to turn with the heel of the hand--not tight at all! The lower part of the cog belt should have a total of about 1" play from bottom to top. The noise is not from the blower bearings but from the jackshaft per Vortech.

As mentioned, rattle is from the cog belt, you probably have the belt too tight like I did. Loosen it up and bit and it will be perfect; when you can turn it by hand with some difficulty you have found the sweet spot (also as mentioned).

Thats sorta good news to me also I have this exact issue. and when I raise the idle a bit by presssing the gas pedal it sounds fine. but then if I let go it sounds like a slight chirp every few seconds.. I took it to the dealer today to have them rasie the idle and then they told me the couldn't (ya right) so I guess I might have to deal with it until I get to TechnoSquare.

Thanks!
That is exactly where it sounds like it is comming from....the Jackshaft.

My cogged belt is adjusted as described....but my main belt is really tight, anticipating the initial streach out within 500 miles.

So....if I have an early 03, (12/02 build date) the dealer can bump my idle up???

Total bs on the dealership part. I had the rattle/chug at idle myself. I dont think it is hurting anything but i had the dealer up the idle and bam no rattle, just the whirring jet turbine sound of the blower.

Actually, if the build date is post 10/2003 then the dealer is correct. Rudeboy said he had a 2004 G35 (in his sig), so the dealer might have been telling him the truth. I have a 01/2004 build date and my rpm cannot be raised via the Consult II. I had our club sponsor Lokey Infiniti try to bump up my idle and they showed me that they could only advance timing. Gotta love the ULEV2 emissions...
