APS vs Vortech
i know this question might have been answered before, i did search up on it but i couldnt find anything. hopefully you guys can give me an answer and your opinion. I have 7.5k to spend on FI. Im going with either an APS Single Turbo or Vortech Super Charger. Sad thing is drive an 05 A/T. Which one would be more reliable and easier on my stock engine and transmission. Which one also pushes out more HP. I know on the Single Turbo, i need to upgrade my torque converter, anyone know how much something liek that would cost?

What I know is this... with an auto you'll want to look into a valve body upgrade (~$1200), a tranny cooler (~$50) skip the TC, gauges (~$600), gauge pod (~$80), installation of the S/C, ST or TT and the gauges and other parts (~$1000-$1300 for the S/C) & ~$2000-$2500 for the TT, tuning (~$300-$500). This will leave you with just shy of having enough money for a satin Vortech S/C. Then you will need 1 step colder plugs, a GATES belt (if you choose the S/C) and a few other miscellaneous items that you can add on should you choose.
I blew through $7000 and didn't get the VB or tranny cooler and I got a "good deal" on the tuning, the S/C and the install.

I have an 05 AT and went with Vortech. (so far...I have only done the tranny cooler upgrade). If you have any questions...let me know. (I got mine installed with Neffster so everything he said applies to me...). I have plenty of power down low and its a blast to drive. Just dont expect too much from a stop as it takes a few thousand RPM's for the blower to really kick in. It's when you downshift or have the RPM's already up there where its fun. 385 to the wheels is 385 to the wheels. Have fun....

You will spend more than 7k on an APS kit for the 5AT.. Your only solid option, which is still a great one, is the vortech unit. As todd listed out, you should easily be able to afford the vortech kit and if you can install the kit yourself (which is not too difficult if you are mechanically inclined), you will immediately shave $1000-1500 off your overall spending. If you do a search by name and look for a thread I created in the FI section about installing a vortech you will get a good idea about the system and how straight forward the install is (along with a great parts list).

The Stillen has less overall power (though the twin-screw blower gives you more power down low) and it requires you to get a god-awful hood. I'm guessing since this wasn't part of his original question, the OP already ruled out the Stillen.
A reason for the S/C over the TT would be the safety factor. Because s/c draw their power lineraly, it safer on the internals. (Not saying a good TT setup isn't as safe...but it does require some extra mods). The Vortech is bascially a slap-on kit.
Ohh...and with an AT...you are gonna wanna get the TS L-spec reflash to bump the rev limiter to 7100.

ohhh you have to get gauges with a SC too =b ddn tknow that hahaha...so I have to upgrade my transmission no matter what i get SC or Turbo??

gauges are a must for any FI engine.
No..you don't have to upgrade your tranny. Many folks have ran fine on stock tranny. Mine is stock but I just bought a $50 tranny cooler to help keep the heat down. I probably wont do the torque converter and am flip flopping with the valve body upgrade. (If it wasn't $1200, the choice would be easier).

Can I drive the car safely if i do get a Single Turbo? as long as i dont rev. high im fine right?... just later one i need to get a tranny cooler and torque converter?
