Most people will probably just say save for FI now and wait to do the other mods after FI. However, if you want to do smaller bolt-ons now and KNOW your going to do FI in the relatively near future, a high flow (cant go wrong with true dual) exhasut will be helpful for FI as will test pipes... but with test pipes, and a high flow exhaust you will lose back pressure and low end power while you are still running na. As for the z-tube and cai, they are good, but they will be replaced by any FI kit, so if you are sure FI is going to be your next step down the road there is no real point in them. Really if you are sure you are going to do FI in the future, its probably best that you just start saving.

*This is all assuming that you are planning on running FI without buidling your engine

Each form of FI varies. I know that the TN ST can use crawford headers, I believe that APS ST & TT and Greddy cannot. Some like test pipes, some require them to be removed and come with cat replacements. CAI's are all scrapped, exhausts can vary from 2.5" to 3.0" depending...

Bottom line... what form and brand of FI will you be buying?

like neffster said, it depends on the kit you're looking to go with...

with any Twin Turbo setup the headers will be tossed and replaced with turbo manifolds. a supercharger, on the other hand, will benefit from headers to better breathe. that is one marked difference between forms of FI.

exhaust is a good start since almost any FI kit will need to breathe better. be wary with certain turbo setups, since the free flowing exhaust will let the turbo spool faster and it might boost alittle higher than it would on the stock one.

certain kits are designed around a near stock setup like the HKS Supercharger and the Stillen Supercharger. these systems sometimes actually lose performance when other things are changed like the headers and exhaust (since these kits are difficult if not unable to be re-tuned for the changes)

all FI kits will replace the Z-tube, but you certainly can get it now and will definitely be able to resell it to someone when the time comes. the demand for used Z-tubes never dies down.

I would be careful on exhausts since a true dual does not work with the ST kits.

I had a HKS Hi power and had to get rid of it due to the TN kit.
