No Gauge's with SC Install - Bad?

I know a couple people on here who don't have any gauge's with their Vortech. I was just posting this thread to see how safe it was to do that. If I get the Vortech tuned well, could I get by without installing any Boost, AF and EGT gauges? For about 6 months after the install? Thanks.

Tuned well.. without gauges?..

They are that not expensive.. 600-700 bucks can you get a nice set. I would not suggest skipping the gauges.

You can't tune without gauges? Doesn't the computer tell you all the info you need when tuning?

Overboost or lean condition means car goes boom. get guages. you don't need the most expensive, just good quality.

I thought the Vortech was pretty reliable. So I guess those guys w/out gauges are asking for trouble?

Is the Zeitronix expensive if I just want A/F and Boost? I want something simple and just one display for everything. What do you guys suggest.

i like my zeitronix. I paid about $500 + install but i got the egt sensor too (might as well since the display shows it...id rather see the EGT than a "0" all the time. Dude..if you are running FI, spend the few bucks to get the gauages. Its not needed, but i couldnt imagine hitting boost without them...

Also...i too was concerned with a simple look. I bought a clip from Baileyrx and his clip is awesome. Just search for it and if not...ill post a pic. Pretty cool

I think Randy was also running no gauges. I might be wrong. Since I saw a few ppl with no gauges, I thought it would be ok. I would understand why you need them for Turbo for sure.

g8tor20, how did you get A/F, boost and EGT for $500? I went to the website and it said just the A/F with display and Boost comes out to a little over $500.

Been running 31,000 miles with the vortech without gauges even though I have them sitting here.
just get it tuned at a good shop and you will be fine....don't beleive all the hype, as long as it is dyno tuned correctly you will be fine.

Of course I intend to get mine installed soon but only when I get the T trim installed.

Dan_K Jan 24, 2006 02:14 AM

^I knew some ppl here didn't run gauges. Out of curiosity, why didn't you get gauges in the beginning? I plan on getting it tuned a SFR, so it should be pretty stable.

Simple, I did not want to have that ugly pillar pod you see on all the other ricer cars around town, I wanted to have a custom gauge holder built and I am working on that right now.

Now on my TT car I have fuel pressure, water temp, oil pressure, egt, boost and AF but that is because on a turbo car you can get boost spikes and turbo systems are always finicky to deal with.

i would definitely not run without them

I was concerned by this too, AAM told me once it's tuned it's tuned and that allot of people don't use guages at all. I ended up going with the HKS navigator on my set-up which reads most vitals it's small and is tucked away so it doesn't stick out and give you the "ricer" look. I had them mount it in the Nav. cubby so I can close it when I don't need anyone else to see it :D. However I will probably end up adding an external Wideband A/F, boost and EGT in the small glove box pretty soon just to maintain the sleeper thing.

I can't imagine running FI without being able to keep an eye on A/F....

I am happy w my Zeitronix!

I hate the idea of gauges in the G35, no where to put them clean. A pillars are ricey, and i'm not a fan of drilling. I like clean OEM looking things. I love the Zeitronix above, thats good but wouldnt work in my car uz I have NAVI :) the only thing i'd ever want is a wideband

g8tor20 Jan 25, 2006 05:12 PM

No problem man. I to ohave Navi. I just installed my Zeitronix useing Bailyrx's clip that he makes. Awesome and works perfectly. Check out post #18
