Vortech Problem?

Well I hope its not a problem but today I was cleaning out the filter (pain in the ***, had to do it through the inner fender liner) and when I took the filter off I noticed that there was some kind of residue on the inside of the charger itself leading towards the impeller blades. It seemed to be oil, it wasnt alot but it was enough to get me worried. It seems to be running fine but is this a problem? Anyone know what it could be. Thanks in advance for any help. I will also try to post some pics when I get a chance.

An Oil Catch Can should take care of the problem. Im getitng a Vortech soon and have been doing a lot of research, I think its called Blow By? or Blow Back? You would also see this in a stock car in the Plenum. What I would suggest is to find out a way to clean the piping because Im sure if its near the filter, its in the piping and then put in an Oil Catch Can. Too much could cause detonation, so yes its a problem, but not unless theres a lot of it. Someone correct me if im wrong, but I think thats what your refering too.

If it was oil on the intake and the blades of the blower , it more than likely was the oil from the filter . Nothing to worry about . When you clean and reoil it . Dont over spray the filter with that red oil , or you can blow it off with an air compressor

Yeah it was on the intake part of the compressor leading into the the blade housing. When I reoiled the filter I did not put much oil as it said in the instructions. Just in case could it be what Labatit said, I would imagine it would be pretty hard for oil to be forced out the inlet with so much flow going towards the blades rather. Could it be the blow back or blow by as was said?

I'm not that familiar with the vortech set-up but I know most have a gauze type air filter element...NEVER EVER use compressed air to clean or dry it. Compressed air can tear the gauze AF element allowing more dirt to flow thru, plus if you use compressed air it can force dirt into the gauze and in turn it can be sucked into the blower/engine of the car. Just some friendly advice.

Vortech uses a K&N filter . Ive blown mine dry when I clean it with no problems at all .So blowing a little excess oil off isnt going to hurt it

Not trying to start a feud by any means...but on every K&N filter there is a "STOP" decal that clearly states "DO NOT USE COMPRESSED AIR" in big, red, bold letters. Also, on the K&N filter recharge kit it also states "After rinsing, shake off all excess water, and dry NATURALLY.” The use of any other cleaning or drying methods WILL damage the filter and void the K&N air filter warranty". No offense but bad information is bad information, especially when it could damage someone’s car.

The whole time I was going back and forth with your buddy Ninja , you kept sticking your nose in trying to defend the little brat .

No insults intended here, true we have had our differences but the whole thing began by you calling ME a liar. That has no bearing on anything in this post, as far as I am concerned it's water under the bridge. I was simply trying to let the guy know that it was not a good thing for the filter. I made it a point to let you know I was not trying to be offensive, but only that the information that you had provided could cause damage to the filter and potentially his car. Had someone given you the same information I would have said the same thing to them to try and help you out. The whole point of these forums is to help each other out with good info. If someone gives bad information it is our responsibility to the other members to say it is bad inormation. I have no reason to argue with you but if it's you or anybody for that matter that gives bad info and I know it's bad info I am gonna call it what it is. Again no offense intended.

Boog, Scott....relax...I've been watching you two fued like this for a while and it's time to call it quits. I respect both of you for different reasons and it's time you guys start sharing your mutual likes and not your dislikes about eachother and get on. I swear, you'd think "Randys_G" and "TOPSECRET2001" were posting or something...
