Low Temp Thermostat

Any of you FI guys running a lower temp thermostat to keep things cool? This was a popular mod for the C5 vette guys but I haven't seen it mentioned much on here.

It's not all that big of a deal....I mean it mainly just turns your fans on at a lower temp......but your fans are already on anyway.....IMO not worth it.

Well, not really. A lower temp stat will keep your engine running cooler on the open road. It will not keep the engine cooler at the track, when you're in line at idle. A lower temp stat opens and closes at diff temps. The fans are a different issue.

To stay cool in traffic/track, you need a manual fan overide switch.

Is there any plug&play switch kit available yet for that purpose?

For these cars, I'm not sure. When I was racing my Camaro, they had kits. But we also had something much better called LS1 Edit, which let us change all kinds of stuff in the ECU, including fan temp on/off settings.

Lower temp stats do not affect the fan on/off settings, and therefore will only keep your car cooler when cold air is available without the fans (outside air at speeds).

I'm running the Nismo low temp. termostat but after one year it gave out.

Many people had problems with the Nismo.

I'm going to be using the stock one insted.

I'm running no thermostat because in Florida it doesn't get very cold. I wired a fan override switch and it only took about 30 minutes to do. The fans are hooked to a relay. Just find the switched ground output and hook up your switch the throw a ground signal. Relay is located by the battery.

Thats scary. Did you car overheat? Was it worth it while it was working?

For the money it wasn't worth it for barely one year.

My car now doesn't heat up at idle, I need to rev it passed 3k to get any kind of heat.

Will be putting back the stock thermostat this spring.
