I want a turbo but to many obstacles :(
BeerViper, quesiton. vortech sounds like it would be alot of fun. i love the sound of the superchargers, but how loud is it when u are just cruising or put it in 6th on the highway? does it get annoying?
This thread hits home on so many points, Ive struggled with these same questions ever since I got the car. Money is not a problem, I can afford to drop 8G tomorrow morning if I really had to. Its just the reliability issue more than anything. But then again I am only thinking of a ST on a stock car at stock boost. Ive never felt the need for FI more than last saturday night when I got pulled at 135mph by boosted Honda Accord that accelerated like he was going from a dig, not triple digit speeds

i've got a beater. I would of never went FI if I didn't have it. If you do go FI, take your time and do it right. Pick a great installer and tuner. Inventory all your parts before turning a bolt for the install. Consider jet-hott coating all piping on the exhaust side of the turbo. Get gauges. Also consider everything that needs to be addressed when adding a considerable amount of power:
1. Synthetic oil, changed every 3k. Constant checking of oil level.
2. Brake upgrades
3. Clutch, tranny
4. Cooling -> everything from radiator, oil coolers, different bumpers, to vented hoods.
The power is awesome, but it's been a long road...

Personally I love the sound of the air escaping the bypass valve, wouldn't trade it for anything. Others find it annoying and have devised ways of silencing it by putting a small filter over the BOV opening and using foam to further constrict the noise. For me the exhaust is louder than anything and that along with the road noise from the tires may push me to dynamat the car...

DYNOMAT is friggin sweet. It will change your life. Have it done all over the damn place by a good shop and you'll be a happy guy!

When I went to Ballistic/Avalon racing a few months ago to get some stuff installed, a desert platinum vortech g35 was in the shop with no blower. The blower had to be sent back to vortech becuase it was killing belts every few hundred miles. He said that this was the third blower for this car. He also said Chris's blower (blue G with greddy front, ken rear, and sf winnings) has been through a few blowers as well. I went back almost a month later and that SAME desert platinum vortech G was still in the shop. Case in point, I CAN't have that stuff happening.

+1 ^^ At first it was hella expensive cuz only a few FI kits were out. Now with so many friggin options for FI: TT, SC ST.....with JWT, APS, Vortech, PE, Greddy, HKS, Procharger etc. making FI kits, the price is falling and the reliability gets better and better as more is known about how the VQ is responding to certain boost situations. Use your head, get a good install and tune conservatively and you shouldn't have a problem.
if you dont have enough disposable income, and you are having this much trouble deciding, then i would advise against it. you should always have enough money just in case something goes wrong.

FI is gonna make your car unreliable for a period of time.. Don't do it if you rely on your car everyday.. My car hasn't run right for 1.5 to 2 years until recently .. always nagging problems, worries and higher maintenance..
the price of FI on the VQ goes way beyond the kit price and the initial install.. you have to have some deep pockets to do it right and maintain it..
so unless you have the deep pockets and incredible patience.. don't do it..
