I did it!

After a long painful trial and tribulation ordeal, I finally went FI. I've actually had the Vortech kit since November, but just did the install. I haven't been tuned yet. I'm letting the J&S Safeguard do the timing because of its knock sensor feature and letting the SS box do the fuel. The J&S is set up to retard 8 degrees starting at 5200 rpm and all in by 6200 rpm. I can also have the J&S retard based on boost as well. I need some opinions on what is the best way to pull timing and yield safe power:

1 or 2 degrees per psi: means timing will be pulled as early as 3500 rpm (1 psi)

or

8 degrees pulled starting at 5200 rpm and all in at 6200 rpm and held until redline: means, between 3k rpm and 5k rpm, no time will be pulled. That's between 1 and 3 psi, which is not too dangerous.

I used the hold feature of the Zeintronix to log some runs and it looks like the SS is working the fuel pump. I trust the Zeintronix, it's very accurate. I'm usually in the low to mid 11's A/F from 3k to 5k and dip into the high 10's at redline. The SS box is pushing fuel based on boost I assume and not cam sensor, crank sensor, and maf input due to these not being hooked up right now...just the air hose.

I'm very happy with the power. I'll keep watching the A/F, but if things stay where they are with a A/F from mid 11s at 3k rpm and high 10s at redline, I won't need a tune. I have 78k on my engine, so I want to keep if safe until I'm ready to rebuild.

Awesome Dean! Welcome to the FI G club! Get that thing dyno'd. Maybe I'll get to see it sometime this summer at a meet in Chi-town.

I did some more datalogging and I am really rich up top at around 9.9 afr. Boost starts around 3k and I have 4 psi by 5k. I did a 7000 rpm run that yielded 8.7 psi with 9.9 afr :0

Be sure you weld a new bung on exhaust to measure AF before any cats....!

Q,

The Bosch O2 is welded in the passenger side header. I have an appointment to get the fuel tuned. I'm satisfied with the timing.

Congrats & welcome to the F/I (& Vortech!) family. Definitely get a tune done. It can still be kept conservative, but running too rich can cause problems as well. Good luck!
