This'll hit the people who debadged hardest (especially those who rebadged Nissan!)...you're going to have a heckuva time convincing the uneducated that you don't have an Altima.

umm no ...

altima = entry level sports coupe
350 = mid range sports coupe

they might update the Z and jack up the 350's price tag a little, but its not going anywhere.

further-

350z - rwd, no back seat, better weight dist.
altima - fwd, heavy back seat, more rear weight on non-drive axle, etc...

totally different markets in my opinion.

Further to jasperg35's point...

350Z - competes directly with Porshe Cayman/Boxter, BMW Z4, Audi TT

Altima Coupe - competes directly with Accord Coupe, Toyota Solara, Pontiac G6, etc.

This is Marketing 101, folks.

Exactly. I also don't know why this is such an issue with G owners. It's a completely different car aimed at a different consumer.

nice way of forcing current G owners to switch to the 2008 model if you ask me.

Only if you subscribe to the theory that it's a very similiar car. It's FWD, different styling, different drive train, interior and it's a Nissan. The reason there's a new coupe is the Altima has been a very successful car. Nissan is looking to expand the options and reasons for the consumer to stay with the Altima lineup.

My reason for trading up to a new G would have nothing to do with the Altima since it's a different level car. It would be impacted by the new '08 G and other true competitors to the G at that time.

Nissan is just looking to get its piece of the (practical) coupe market. They are coming in at the right time too, because Toyota is dropping the Solara after 2007, so it will be no more. I'm sure the altima coupe will take off quite well- its only other competitors would be the Accord and the Pontiac G6.
