There already are what is technically a G25 sold in Japan - The 250GT.
The 250GT is the same as the 350GT/G35, but with the 2.5ltr (VQ25DD 2.5ltr 158kW V6 Engine – 107kw/tonne), there is also a 270GT, which is the 2.7ltr version of the G37. Same car, smaller engine. There is also a 3ltr version of the G35, the 300GT, but I dont think they were very popular (VQ30DD 3.0ltr 191kW V6 Engine – 128kw/tonne)
I should note though that they are sedan versions only.

Here's the Skyline 350GT (3.5L) and 250GT (2.5L):

Here's the Skyline Coupe (3.7L only):

Press release for the '08 Coupe:
http://jalopnik.com/cars/new-cars/20...pan-305977.php
The new Skyline coupe is available in four models, each equipped with the new 3.7-liter VVEL V6: 370GT, 370GT Type P, 370GT Type S and 370GT Type SP.
There is no 300GT, nor is there a 2.7L Coupe.

I think if Infiniti needed to increase its G35 sales it would go downmarket with a 2.5L model, but I think their sales figures have been doing so well that it's currently not worth their effort.

Similarly with the V36 gen Coupe (G37 in the US), the car is only available in 3.7L form in Japan. THERE IS NO 270GT (2.7L) COUPE. There's a 2.5L and a 3.5L Sedan, but the Coupe is ONLY AVAILABLE in 3.7L form. Besides, if Nissan were to do a base engine V36 Coupe, it'd be a 250GT (2.5L) Coupe. It'd be a waste of time and money to develop a separate 2.7L version of the HR motor for BASE ENGINE duty when they already have the 2.5L on hand.
