I love to drive anything and everything and DCTs and SMGs are without a doubt the future of high performance shifting, but there's nothing wrong with wanting to row your own 6 speed. It's because of guys like us that manufacturers still offer traditional stick and clutch gearboxes and quite frankly, anyone who "can't get with that" can shove it.

there is a difference between an AUTO and a AUTO clutch.......
AUTO cars are slow and LAME imo...... an automatic clutch is basicallly shifting faster then you can even think, a clunky AUTO shift box ROBS huge amounts of power froma car... end of story hense why the AUTO coupe is SOOO much slower then the Manual.

Autoclutch, DSG, SMG, F1 whatever you want to call it. Does shift incredibly quick and mimics a traditional standard transmission very well and in most cases shifts faster than a very very very good manual transmission operator. That being said, driving with those is not the same feel as a standard transmission. Its just fun throwing the stick around. Is it better or worse? Depends on what you want. But there's no fault to wanting to have a traditional standard transmission.
Just a matter of preference guys... As for me, I can't stand to drive auto of any kind (slush box or shift paddles). Yeah, those paddle shifters are teched to shift up/down way faster than anyone using a manual - and trust me, I'm not trying to prove otherwise. One of the biggest complaints about manual was (and probably still is): "I like driving stick, but I hate it in traffic". For me, I don't mind one bit. Again, just a matter of preference.
Paddle shifters can never give you the feel of the drive like a manual transmission.
Yes, these new trannies can be faster, but I'm sure it feels real rather good knowing you bought a piece of technology that drives for you rather than knowing that you beat the other driver yourself...

i bet they still complain about electric refridgerators, and how they can't get blocks of ice to keep their food from going bad... or why their windows 3.1 computer can't surf this webby thing that everybody is talking about....
i'm sorry about the sarcasm, i think i get frustrated by those who do not want to advance. we all have our passions, i guess. i should be more tolerant to those who enjoy a historic form of motorsports. i guess nostalgia has it's place... just not in my car.

so if i designed a system which would turn flawlessly for you (for every turn you plan to corner) ... much faster and more accurately than you could ever turn the wheel of your car... would you say that a "manual" steering at that point would be "nostalgic"... would you give up the ability to physically control the car for the speed you obtain as a result?
Now obviously when it comes to a stick gearbox... you would agree with me and pick the fancy new dual clutch,... but what about your gas pedal? what about your steering wheel? what about your shoes? (basically ... at what point do you say... enough... its not me driving anymore ... the car is now driving me)...
just seems to me that... some people get to this point rather sooner than others... to me ... driving an AT car (no matter how much faster in a line) is like playing a video game... its only a matter of time before all this other technology makes you feel the same as well....
Bottom line: fun and fast are two non interchangeable things... some of us could not care less about going fast from A to B... but what we do care about is the overall driving experience and the satisfaction you feel when you walk away from your parked car.... the noises and forces you feel when your hands, legs, eyes and mind are in flawless harmony... something you AT freaks would never understand

Some people would rather sacrafice a few tenths of a second on the 1/4 mile or track and have a clutch & shifter for a more enjoyable drive (MT enthusiasts).
I completely understand the new technology and have no problem with it being implemented on every performance car on the market. BUT taking away an MT as an OPTION is almost an insult to those who enjoy throwing the shifter into gear.
Speed isn't everything. If im going to spend $70,000+ dollars, I would atleast expect a company to offer something that would please a big group of [MT] enthusiast drivers. Something about having all that power and not having a clutch and shifter doesn't sound right to me.

OH, and speed is everything!!! I don't think one would enjoy shifting when they see themselves spanked by someone with the "flappy paddle" gear changers lol.
