BMW 1-Series fighter from Infiniti possible.

The formula is simple, build our version of the M3, cheaper, better looking, high tech, more reliable. So far Infiniti is clearly winning our business. I don't know about a V8 or VQ38DETT Infiniti coupe, but a high performance 4-door sedan is clearly missing from the Nissan lineup.

well.. I would say that traditionally... the G was the middle ground between an M3 and a 3 series... (in terms of performance - in looks we don't even need to go there)... but now w/ the 335 ... it seems like the G is targeted towards it but the 335 is BMW's answer to the G35/37... and not the other way around
I don't think so. When the G was introduced in 2003, it's performance was right in step with the 330I of the time. The M3 of that era were clearly superior.
Also these models are coming out so close to each other, there's not way BMW is reacting to what Infiniti is doing. It's the other way around. BMW had to have been developing the 3.0 TT motor for at least 3 years+. Well before the HR series VQ35/37 motors were introduced.
BMW doesn't react, it leads. Plain and simple. You can tell the new TT motor is going to be the new workhorse motor for BMW. It's already powering the 535i. Some magazines say there's no need to even buy the 545i.

While Jonathan's shots of the new 370Z were seductively cryptic, these newest images from Car do more to confuse than enlighten. Car was attending a presentation by Nissan design chief Shiro Nakamura, and with their camera phone at the ready, snapped off a few shots of Infiniti's upcoming small sports car that looks more like Han Solo in carbonite than a swoopy coupe.
The Infiniti two-door is expected to debut sometime later this year in concept form, and is poised to take on the BMW 1-series in the compact coupe segment. The shape, even in the grainy pic, is decidedly different from anything else in its class, with a long hood and a cab-backward design that has plenty of potential.
Car also grabbed a shot of the Nissan 370Z, which appears to get some seriously styled wheel arches and a steeply raked windshield. But according to the Brit buff book's sources, the new Z will take several cues from the GT-R when it's unveiled later this year at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

edit: Can anyone invert the image like how the 350z guys did to the 370z image?

I think a direct competitor to the A3 and 1 Series is a must for Infiniti if they want to successfully play ball in Europe. I also think it would do very well for them here in NA as well.

Could you imagine the rocket they would have putting a variation of the GT-R's engine in a G?

I'd love to see that in NA as well.
