wow, finally finished the heart of this turbo system. headers, turbo's, wastegate plumbing & 3" down tubes all done. everything fits, all symetrical & equal length & evenly matched side to side, now just need to go over everything with a tig welder...

just to build the heart of this turbo system winded up taking about 100 hours in labor believe it or or not, over the past 2 weeks. the amount of tedious work to get everything to line up 100% the same side to is crazy... I winded up having to build another seperate jig just to get the waste gates in exactly matching spots left to right... I wanted everything to look even & perfect, it def came out sick I think, was worth the effort.

That's awesome! Even better you are doing all of this yourself. Can't wait to see how this turns out.

yeah man, viets ride is awesome & pretty different from mine... I don't look at it as competition between us, I think mine & his are built with 2 different goals in mind. I have no intentions of ever saying mine is better... his is still way more done up than mine all over & I'll never do mine up to the point of all polished up & show worthy like his, no wire tucks & air suspension, no real goals of showing or competing with mine. the body I may touch next winter but viets ride is just so radical & done that I really am not even aiming for him really, his is still king

Are you planning on sticking with the stock tranny and AWD system? I was under the impression that they could only handle about 350-400 lb ft of torque. It would be a good test though and if it breaks you could always build it stronger, . Let us know how it goes! I want to turn up the boost on mine but not planning on going too high (maybe 7-8 pounds).

yeah, stock AWD & stock tranny for now, although I will do a VB upgrade & have much added cooling for the tranny before I really push it hard, gonna see how much I can get away with until I break something I guess...

most times drivetrains break on launch from a stand still or from very low speed hard launching, or at least get damaged on launch & let go maybe in the upper range... as the vehicle is moving faster & faster there is less & less chance of breaking anything in the drivetrain. it's all going to come down to restraint & trying not to break anything... you can have a lot of power & bring it on more progressively & maybe have it live a bit easier... it's like nitrous... try launching on it & you'll twist & break stuff, but if you have it come in once you hit 2nd gear & come in progressive then the drivetrain can handle more power... 500ftlb's of torque against a static vehicle at rest is way more stressful than 500ftlb's of torque at 40mph...

keep in mind that 400ftlb's of torque at launch is way more stressful to a drivetrain than even like 600ftlb's of torque applied at like 60mph... sometimes it's not just how much power but how it's used too... if I try to do 4 wheel smokey burnouts then I'm pretty sure I can tear it all up in no time...

Yeah, that's a good point. My G is tuned very progressively (thanks to Coup de Grace) and just keeps pulling harder and harder as you get through the gears. 300 AWHP and no problems, drive it daily and it's got about 103K miles on it. Just drive it like a stock G and give it some gas when you want to have some fun.

I should have it all running & buttoned up for the annual FX summer barbeque meet I think in july... other than that I try to make most local fx meets at least... I'll keep my eyes open for other meets too, prolly stop by cesars bay weekly meets when I can too...

I had the fx in the shop for a total of maybe 6 weeks or so & been working real hard on her most of the time, past 2 weeks especially with 1 am & later every night including saturday and sunday... the majority of the tough mechanical end of this swap & custom turbo build is pretty much DONE, roll her out of the shop tommorow, I can finish the plumbing & wiring with the fx outside.... I really had to push pretty hard to get this part of the project done as quick as possible... dropped the nose to the ground for the first time in 6 weeks & man, I forgot how low my fx sits... it almost looks like a car with no nose on it I originally hoped to complete all this in 4 weeks, but building all the headers & pipework from scratch instead of the lesser options I played with in the begining really added a lot of work to this build too...

I think I'd say I'm ~ 80% done overall at this point, can't wait to drive her again!... now the hard part is actually getting an HR motor to run in a DE car
