FX35 vs FX45

I'm looking to buy a used FX this spring and currently looking at 2004 FX35's and FX45's and they are about the same price. I really don't care for the V8 engine over the VQ35 but it would be nice however the extra $$$ for the gas isn't. I would rather pick up an FX35 however I heard that the FX45 has a lot more little nifty features and extras compared to the FX35. What differences are there between the two? Another reason I want the FX45 over the FX35 is because of the chrome window trims. How big of a difference in gas mileage is there between the two? What made you guys all ultimately pick one over the other?

I would get the 45. So beautiful. Plus I don't want to have to buy another TT kit.

i had the 35 before my G. It is painfully slow. Not to mention the interior of the 45 is a step up. There's no question in my mind, go with the 45.

The 35 and 45 interiors are exactly the same, you may be thinking of the change from 06+ which all FXs have.

The tech package in the 45 used to have some little extras I think. All 4 windows had auto up and down while the 35 even with the tech package only had the front 2. The 45 fuel differences shouldn't be that different.

Regarding the interior differences between '06-'08 35s and 45s, the 45s have a combination of aluminum trim and wood trim on the center console. 35 non-Sports have a flat aluminum interior trim while 35 Sports have an etched aluminum pattern. So on that note, yes there is a difference between the 35s interior vs. the 45s albeit they're pretty minor IMO.

Additionally, the 45 has power folding exterior mirrors. As for one touch windows on all 4 windows, here's the weird thing. I drove an '03 45 once that had one touch on all 4 windows. However, I've driven '06-'08 45s w/ Tech (fully loaded basically) that lacked this feature. It would appear as though Infiniti somewhere along the line removed one touch rear windows on the 45. My guess is that it was probably done as a cost cutting measure as the FXs rear windows only drop about 2/3 of the way down anyway.

Forgot about the wood and mirrors. The 45 guys noticed the auto thing too, I forget the year that it was found on. My buddy has a 05 45, I haven't been inside a 06+ yet.

You have a link to the thread where the 45 guys discussed this? My guess that it was done as a cost cutting measure is pure speculation and I've always wondered why they did away with the feature. If anything, they should have just made it standard on all FXs (35s included) or lumped it in with the Touring or Hands-free package or something. So what if the windows only go 2/3 of the way down, it's things like not having to hold the window buttons down that are expected in this class of vehicle IMO.

I'm getting about 19MPG (Navi reading) with my G35 at the moment. What should I expect from the FX45?

I'm actually driving a Hummer H2 right now, and honestly it's the biggest piece of **** that I ever bought. The FX35 is probably a lot faster than my H2.

Nissan and their cost cutting bean counters I tell you. I know it's just "the small things" but it really irritates me sometimes. In this class "it's the small things" that make or break a sale. A prime example of what I'm talking about are the pin LEDs in the headliner of the V36 Sedan and Coupe. My '07 G has a pair of pin LEDs just forward of the moonroof that light up when the headlights are on to illuminate the center console in the dark. The G37 only has one. It looks sloppy and tacked on in the Coupe. I haven't checked the '08 Sedan's yet to see if Infiniti has lopped off one of the LEDs in the 4 door.

Well, I got about 18 on my G35, and typically get about 15 on the FX45. When driving fairly aggressively (read: like an idiot) I'll get closer to 13.5, and when cruising on the freeway around 70 or 75, I'll get around 20. The estimate is only 18 so maybe I got a good model. The fuel efficiency drops a lot on the freeway at higher speeds though, which I'd say is the biggest difference between the G35 and the FX45. In my coupe I could get 26mpg doing 100mph all day long on trips, but with the FX if I'm up at 90 I'm closer to 16 or 17. All in all, my full tanks of mixed driving average between 14 and 17mpg. Its not great, but I don't think you'll get much better on the 35.

I love the 45, but I am a pretty aggressive driver. If you are more mellow, you may not need the extra power and may enjoy the added fuel economy, if you want to call it that, of the 35. The engine and exhaust note on the 45 are just as addictive as the coupe, though a much different sound. You'll also be able to keep up with just about anything on the road. I had a guy desperately trying to pull away on me in the G37 on the freeway and he didn't make much progress.

The chrome trim on the windows is nice, and I think really makes mine with the new Autumn Copper pop. Other than that there's the wood trim, but not too much difference. I'd say if you like to drive aggressively go with the 45, but if you are just going for looks and something bigger than your G, the 35 will suit you just fine. Also not sure the difference in handling between the 18" package and 20" sport package, but the 20's are great and you'll be surprised how well the 45 handles the curves.

good luck!

the best average MPG I ever saw in my 35 was 18.xx. I didn't really drive it that hard either. It was just 20 miles on the highway twice a day mostly. I just think the v6 in the 35 is not powerful enough for such a heavy car so it uses lots of the rev band and uses more fuel that way.

all I'm saying is that I was never satisfied with the fuel economy of my FX even when I drove it to see how high I could get the MPG. With that being said, I don't know how much better or worse the 45 is.

and also,
fx35 fuel economy
MPG (city)
15

MPG (highway)
20

MPG (combined)
17

fx 45
MPG (city)
