The stock tires have a certain thickness, diameter, rotational speed, etc. The speedometer is calibrated to work with that setup. When you change wheel sizes and tires, the rotational speed changes thus the need to keep your speedometer accurate. Otherwise the speedometer may read + or - a certain amount of mph. It could be the difference between a traffic ticket or not.
I experience it all of the time with my FX between my stock tires and the winter tires.

Either ask bruddahmanmatt or use the search function on the forum...I'm sure you're aren't the only one with that question. Like I said, I know how much my speedometer is off so I just keep that in mind while driving with my winters on. I'm too lazy, LOL
