Shifting after engine is shut off

Posting this on behalf of a friend who drives a 2006 FX35 Sport. When he parked and shut the engine off, he was able to shift from park into neutral, D, reverse (all gears) pretty easily. He told me that he noticed that he was able to shift with the engine off only recently - as little as a month ago it wasn't the case. There weren't any other noticeable issues with his FX, tranny or otherwise. Did any of you experience something similar and does it warrant a visit to a dealer?

The shift lock was probably disengaged stated above, or he simply could of put the switch to ACC.
