Only 1 quart of oil in 06MT

Note that when you drain an engine of oil, there is still a fair bit of oil around the engine. "Most" of it goes to the sump/oil-pan, but not all of it. So even if only 1-2qrts came out you could have still had an additional 1+ in the car. The dip stick isn't a perfect way to measure oil, but it gets the job done. The car has a pretty wide margin of acceptable oil levels, so having an inaccurate measure device doesnt matter too much.
You can put too much engine in a car, that excess will get burned off. That is normal, it will leak until it equilibrates itself.
If the car is still consuming oil, I hope Infiniti takes car of you.

Thanks for the replies….yes the engine is consuming oil (in my opinion and my dealer’ opinion).
However, the general consensus here is that there is no problem because the dealer is obviously wrong, the dipstick can’t be trusted, and the 40 YEAR OLD co-owner of the oil change shop obviously cannot tell the difference between 1 quart of oil coming out and 4 quarts coming out during my first oil change.
Let’s just close the thread and move on....thanks.

Def post up when you get the official oil consumption evaluation from the dealer.
Good luck!!

they also didn't tighten up my drivers side motormount...

I went to the dealer today and we recorded the mileage and verifed that the level was full. I am going back in 500 miles to see if the level changes. Either way, I am furious about the possibility that the engine was damaged

Why? Because I spent $36,000 on a car .. I shouldn't have to

Not to beat a dead horse...but my dip stick shows F after 5qts put in with filter change. When dip on L mark and I add 1qt, it goes back to F.
When between H and L (you do the math) it can be considered normal. Running 1/2qt down is of no concern. Running at L or below is of concern.
Thats why those marks are there...whatever...lol
Here some threads thats been around awhile on this issue. They're long but good info.

Unrelated, I find the most accurate way to measure is to check in the morning after having left the car sitting over night. You get a nice level line that is easy to read.

I'm an old motor head and have always checked my oil regularly in every vehicled I've owned.
Every vehicle and engine is different and I always like to know whats going on with it, if anything.
It is sad I have to check every 1000mi with this VQ though

Not flaming the original poster, but if you truely only had 1qt in your pan, your VQ would've sounded like a lawn mower well before that level.

Wow, you think so? If you do then I have a bridge to sell you... Because that almost sounds like it's straight from a car dealers mouth.
There is NO REASON to check oil on any car unless it's a turbo or unless you find a puddle under the car.
If the car comes with a full oilpan, then it should have a full oil pan for AT LEAST 3500 miles (really more like 15000 or more miles)..
Anyone who knows how an engine works should already know this. Oil shouldn't be allowed in the combustion chamber by any way but through the intake. .. The ONLY time you should have oil in there is if the crankcase pressure builds up sooooo much that oil gets pushed into the intake and blown out of the exhaust. That's ok because it's DESIGNED to functioin like that. I can assure you that no one should be pushing that much oil through a PCV to drop their engines down to 1quart before an oil change is due.
These cars are actually letting oil in through the heads and through the piston rings. ..
When downshifting you can generate enough force to actually warp the rings on these cars (or so I'm told).. After my car consumed about 35quarts of oil I removed my CAI and put the stock one on. Upon inspection of the CAI I saw that it was BONE DRY.. There was NOTHING in the intake that was causing my consumption problems(not my PCV)..
These engines, as I've said MANY TIMES now.. "ARE CRAP"
