Got into small accident, please advise.

Hey guys,
I don't post much on here , just a lurker. I was wondering if you can point me in the right direction. Basically I ran up on a curb because I couldnt make the turn quick enough, and as a result, the curb dented my bumper and stuff underneath. Now a liquid was leaking out, I am not sure what liquid it was, its slimy, blackish grey, but is definitely not oil bc it has no odor. Maybe some radiator fluid? So basically something underneath needs to be replaced.

Should I go to a small repair shop to get it fixed or go to Infiniti? I really don't want to go through insurance if I don't have to so I want to find the most cost effective solution.

Oil doesn't have to have an odor. It could be transmission fluid/powersteering fluid or motor oil. I would check the level on each first

My guess is power steering fluid. Second guess would be transmission.

So if it is any of those you suggested, do you anticipate high repair costs? What would need to be replaced if there was a leak in any of those liquids?
Assuming nothing else was damaged. I gotta mentally prepare myself as I bring my car in for an estimate Sat am. Im crossing my fingers that the cost will be less than the 500 deductible...

BTW, anybody have an IP 2dr oem bumper they want to sell?

Make sure you take into account this is an accident and it's your fault. Up here in MA that would add points to your insurance policy and would raise your premiums. You should check with your insurance agent before proceeding. Just make sure you ask about the points.

Hey. Be careful. I was thinking about this again and without pictures it certainly is difficult to make any real assessment.

However, it may be brake fluid. You may have snapped the line or it broke at the caliper. Now this would be the cheapest repair and you could possibly do it yourself.

Of course brake fluid is not grey by any means but after it runs over a dirty caliper, it certainly can be!

Please look at the fluid levels for these and report back.

Yea I think it could be either brake/power steering fluid. I would take it to the dealer and don't try to seem guilty either. Just tell em its leaking and u don't know why..If they say it was scraped up or something then tell em someone else was drivin ur car. Hopefully its not engine/tranny oil..Hopefully its just one of the hoses or something came loose. Good luck and tell us what happend.

Hey, which side of the car was it ? i assume its the right front, the damage to fix the bumper would cost you around 700 with paint job and putting it on, if u broke the spoiler, that little piece of plastic going underneath the bumper, that is additional 300$ just for that (its more expensive then bumper itself) there are only two things hidden behind that bumper washer fluid reservoir and there is some other one if you take a look through your grill you could actually see it, im pretty sure if u wanna fix the bumper itself its going to be more then 500$ unless do it through comprehensive and make it look like you hit a raccoon

as long as you have a reasonable deductible i would highly consider going through insurance as a comp claim like adrianPL suggested...

antifreeze= Green or red
oil = very light brown
tranny = red

only thing i can think of blackish gray & "slimy" in front of car is axle grease, maybe u ripped ur CV joint boot or something
in that case regular mechanic $150-$225 depending on how much mech wants to rape u
+ whatever else u damaged, bumper etc.

I agree with paperchaser, sounds like you cracked a boot. Is the "sludge" thick and heavy or is it runny? If its thick and heavy its definitely CV grease.

Cake work, but its tedious.
