stripped trunk ...way too much time on my hands

So for fun and to waste time, I stripped my coupe's trunk completelly today, basically took out everything except the lining or lyning ...idk too late for me to bother with spelling. Anyways that and the fact that i had about 1/8 of a tank of gas in the car defnitellly made a bit of a diffrence, especially in 2nd, the acceleration was slightly better. Oh well was fun, but its back in for now, but will prob rip it all out for good eventualy, just need my beater POS mistubishi to stop acting like a troubled child on crack. The car overall felt a lil quicker, but defnitelly a tiny bit more understeer....ain't that a bych.

I heard that if you only put 1 quart of oil instead of 5 you can shave a lot of weight. You should try it and let us know.

Those were pretty sarcastic.

After using Dynamat on mine, my guess is probably 25-35 pounds at least. I'm sure exact specs are to be found from a complete search, but my rough guess is:

5 lbs just for the plastic BS
15-20 lbs for the spare tire
5-10 lbs for the jack

With relatively little of the car's weight hanging over/behind the rear axle, 35 lbs would be enought o be felt.

I just wish there were more opportunities to remove weight front the front. If I can hit the lottery, I'll ship the G to Opera House in Japan for a major diet.

you know, thats exactly what i was wondering about right after my little test drive, if only there were some relativelly easy ways to strip some weight of the front it would defintelly help the understeer and balance the sucker out, but beyond a lightweight dry cell battery and removing the plastic cover over the plenum I really can't think of too much to strip. I am considering making my own carbon fiber intake, shouldn't b too expansive and DIY guides on simple carbon parts are plentiful on the internet, but at the end of the day that will barely save anything since the stock intake isn't too heavy to begin with.
Actually one option I'm wondering about is how heavy the urethane replica nismo bumper by AutoMotiveMods is. What I'm wondering is weather there would b a weight diffrence between that and the stock bumper, any diffrence in weight would prob. be most felt here since its the most forward part of the car, if anyone has a clue i would appreciate it.

Did you relecate the battery, and remove all the plastic covers under the hood yet? That should net you quite a bit of weight, and shift the weight distribution to the rear more.

I haven't removed the covers yet, but I likely will for better ventilation of heat. Relocating the battery always comes to mind, however, I'm not so sure I want it it the small trunk and I'm not enthused about drilling the floor for the cable pass-through. I did it on my '55 Bel Air street rod, but that had a huge trunk. I will say that Detroit Speed & Engineering has a really sweet Optima-specific battery 'cage' mount (full box not needed with dry-cell) that looks very sweet. I used it to great effect on that car.

Aside from the covers, I plan to take a few pounds of rotational mass(8?) out of the front with my NISMO flywheel. I'll settle for more savings via a CF driveshaft and then hope I can shed a few more rotational pounds by upgrading the OEM '19 Rays. Nothing too drastic... ...as long as it's my daily-driven street car.
