New key from dealer, enviromental fee??

Just reviewed an invoice from a few months ago, and I see they tacked on an enviromental fee as part of making / programing a new key...

Can anyone else check their invoices to see if this is the case?

I cant imagine the metal shavings from the key being cut is a hazard, and definately not a $6 one....

Recycle fee? Someone should pay me because they're getting free metal that doesnt have to be mined from the earth....

Im starting to not like my dealer, and this is possibly just one more reason why...

They're nice, in personality, but it seems to end there.

It may have something to do with the PCA (printed circuit assembly) that's installed within the key (provided the key was replaced instead of re-programmed). I know that WEEE/RoHS for electronics is playing a big role for OEMs, CMs, etc. to move away from lead based solders. Basically, WEEE/RoHS states the removal of lead (other banned elements to follow) from electronic components / assemblies. Europe and Japan have already moved towards eliminating lead from their electronic assemblies. The US is to follow suit - depending on application. A guess on my part...
