Mpg

My last thread i asked about what gear to be in while driving at 40-45mph and this got some people to respond with what mpg they get. It seemed that a lot of people got better mpg than me. I drive normally, shift at about 3k rpm, dont redline it much at all and i get at most 18.5 mpg. Does that seem low to anyone? Seems like others are gettin 20+mpg.

there were two threads (both polls - one for 5at and one for 6mt) about this a few days ago

search it

most people with 5at got between 18 and 21 or something..

Getting 24mpg+ on a regular basis

Hiya Blaze,

Well it seems low to me. I have an '06AT and I am getting 24mpg+ from tank to tank. This is NOT using the mileage computer in the navi system. I fill the tank and zero the odometer, then the next time I fill up I read the mileage traveled and the amount of gas I put in.

This car has only a bit more than 3k on it so I assume it's still a bit tight. I admit I don't have a heavy foot but at times of course I have to hear that great Infiniti sound from the exhaust and I get on it! I have only the 17" rims and I run 32psi in them, 2psi over the recommended 30. I try to anticipate where I might have to stop and don't go charging up to red lights, I hang back a bit to keep the momentum. I also use the cruise control whenever I can even on a 2 mile stretch of road I have it on.All that little stuff adds up.

My 2004 Boxster S with 265 hp got 26 mpg most of the time, my Audi TT with the turbo never got good mileage, it was below the Porsche, with 40 less hp.

Maybe there is a problem with your car. What method do you use to actually check the mpg?

Good luck with it!

i think this kind of thing really depends on how much freeway vs city driving you do... and how heavy your foot is of course

I got a 6mt. I do about half and half street and freeway driving and I let my computer do the calculations for the mpg. Id be worried if i was gettin 16 or so but i guess 18-19 isnt bad for a 6mt.

I have a 03 coupe 6mt with 36000 miles and I'll get 18.5 mpg if its 100% city driving and 25.5 mpg if its 100% highway and approximately 21 mpg if its 50/50 highway/city.

As for shifting I'm usually shifting around 3000 - 3500 rpm for normal driving.

I only have 9 gallons left in my tank and ive only gone like 140-50 miles. WTF? Thats horrible gas mileage and i have not been gettin up on it that much. I've redlined it maybe 2-3 times. I'm pissed about how low I am getting.

Hmmmm just curious. Would doing a ECU and throttle reset and then "grannying" it during its re-learning stage setup the G to get better gas milage?

I'm averaging about 21 mpg and that's half on the streets and half on the freeway.
