Counterpoint to my "Mods" thread
A couple of weeks ago I went to town detailing every issue I've had with the car, and the mods. Today, I've got a few good things to post.
First, I got my oem clutch/pressure plate/flywheel back from the dealer last week. I gave it a once-over, but honestly didn't know what to look for. It appeared to be in decent shape. There was no obvious heat discoloration, and the clutch disk friction material was in good shape, with plenty of material left.
I had Cheryl's stepfather look at the unit over the weekend. He said the unit was in great shape. He knows how I abuse it, and race it(he used to race a 6 second 1/8th mile ford back in the day). He was quite surpirsed at how well the unit stood up. The clutch was slipping at the track, but never slipped on the street. He said the stock unit was still good for plenty of street miles. Good enough in fact that I shouldn't be troubled with swapping it back in when I return the car to stock.
Then today I had the tranny and diff fluid replaced(redline). The tranny plug had practically zero shavings. I don't make a habit of grinding gears, but it has happened a few times(only when racing; always 2nd gear). Considering the abuse to which the car is subjected, we both(myself and the guy doing the fluid swap) expected a more significant indication of that abuse.
So, the point is that even after all the abuse, the car's still in great shape. The tranny is in great shape, and I could even go back to the stock clutch/fly if I didn't want to race any more.
14 months, 27k miles, 120 some-odd passes down the drag strip(3k+ rpm clutch drops), 3 auto-x events, close to 30 dynos, daily beatings, and I'm about to be on my 3rd set of tires. Props to nissan.

My 1st car, at 16, was a '79 280ZX. My 2nd car, at 17, was an '83(?) Special Edition 280ZX Turbo. I was raised a Nissan guy.
While the G is my first Nissan since the mid/late 80's, it feels like an evolution of those early Z's. Then and now, I agree that Nissan's are a love-hate relationship. Mostly love, which is why I tollerate hating things about them.

My car takes about the same abuse as yours. Im glad to hear that the vital parts of the tranny don't wear out so quickly. Im on stock clutch now having about 27k. And Im guessing it has another 15k to go (Hopefully).
