High pitched rattle/ring from shifter @ 5k+
So my 2006 6mt has started making a rattling/ringing sound, kind of high pitched and metallic when accelerating or decelerating in gear at over 5,000 rpm. It's obviously coming from something to do with the shifter, because if I put a little pressure downwards or otherwise on the shifter, the noise goes away.
Any idea what this might be and how to fix it? The car is mechanically 100% stock.

If I put even pressure on the shifter, the noise goes away. Pressure in any direction... towards the gear position, towards neutral, slight downwards pressure on the stick... anything to sort of "load up" the stick just a little, the sounds stops until I let go of the stick again or get my revs down.

I had the same problem. I could pause the noise by wrapping my hand firmly around the node where the shifter meets the boot.
I had the dealer check it out about 9 months ago when it was in for various rattles. At first, they blamed it on the crawford cats(but I didn't have the brace attached). I stated that I experienced the problem way before the cats were ever put on.
They ended up keeping it overnight. They replaced the guide plate, and even the shifter itself. They could never solve the problem.
A few months ago after I got my clutch/flywheel installed, the buzz/vibration was gone. It was fine for about a month, but eventually returned
