Switching to synth too early will void my warranty?
Just before a track day I took my 06 coupe into the dealer to do an oil change with my own oil. I was going to have them put in Mobil1 5w-30 synth, but the service lady said that they don't recommend putting in synth oil until 15k miles (I had like 5k) because of some oil buring issues they've had with the coupes and if I put in syth oil, I "could have some warranty issues". Now I know a lot of you have switched to synth almost immediately, have any of you had oil burning problems? Is the service lady full of BS and should I just do the switch to synth myself? (btw - I ended up just doing a normal oil change that day, they use synth-blend and it cost ~$50!!)

I'd like to hear what the dealer's excuse is for voiding your warranty for using synthetic oil. The only requirement as far as oil goes, as specified by nissan, is that it meets the API spec and is of the proper viscosity. As long as the API seal is displayed on the oil, and it's the correct viscosity, Nissan/Infiniti has zero ground to stand on by claiming you used the improper oil.

what he told me was that synth. oil does not allow the rings to seat, eventually leading to oil burn issues and poor mileage. he recommended i wait til 10k or 5k at the earliest. i switched back to conventional, taking his word on the problems he had seen in cars that had switched too early.
