Since when does it take 10-15k miles for rings to seat? In reality that's pretty much done happening at the factory when they run the engine a certain amount (at varying speeds) to test it. Modern engines come basically broken in and don't require the same break in period that old engines used to.

Like someone else said...if there were any issues it would be in bold letters in the owner's manual from Infiniti themselves. I put synthetic in the same 3.5 VQ motor in my Maxima at 1k miles...traded it with almost 50k on it...never had a problem and never had to put a drop of oil in the car between changes.

Most problems are magnified on forums. I have to believe the rings in most G35s are just fine with owners dumping in their favorite oil after break-in.

Thanks for all the responses guys.

Her reasoning was the same as that other guy's reasoning, oil consumption problems.

But I'll probably switch the next time I do an oil chance because I've already bought the oil and don't feel like paying Infiniti another $50 to get an oil change when I can do it myself =P. Hopefully I won't get any oil consumption problems...0_o

Nissan is typically cheaper than Infiniti for doing routine services, like oil changes, etc.

I would suspect that the majority of the oil "burning" issues are not from synthetic oil, but from wimpy break-in methods. If an engine does not experience full load and pressures for brief periods early on in life, it is not a good thing. I changed to M1 at 2200 miles and 74K now with no problems at all.

I believe syn oil is essentially regular oil, but with a drastically lower distribution of molecular weights. I don't see how it could possibly do any damage. Some have higher level of detergents, so they aren't necessarily recommended for higher mileage engines that haven't run them.
