It wasnt very much but I still paid half at 16.

my very first car i got myself was a 98 chevy malbu. other fam members were really happy i did it on my own. I went to college, grad from the Univ of Kansas and graduated with a degree in economics and got myself a nice job. With the job I got my G35 myself again, which im very proud of. When I got it my other relatives gave me dirty looks and asked me questions on how i got it.

i feel your pain in some way but at 18 and g35 coupe you have to expect getting **** from people. pretty lucky man.
you live in kansas AH!

So, before I got my G. I went to play ball with my younger brother (18) and all of his friends, who had better cars than me (Avalon, GS300, ES300, RSX-S, EVOs, STI's, etc). I was thinking to myself, WTF! I work hard for my money, and these high school kids are driving what around?!?!! I listen to them talk, and watch they way they act..

Parents these days have no concept of making their child EARN anything.

I can understand a parent trying to live through his kid, by buying them everything they couldn't have at that age. However, the affect is VERY negative.

I was luck at 18 to have a '87 Wagon with no AC and 3 gears, while some kids in my school drove daddy's 525i.

IMO, if the kid doesn't earn what he gets/owns. He'll grow up expecting to be fed with a silver spoon.

My generation and generations following are flawed (except the few who had really good parents, or PARENT in my case)

Well, I HARDLY GO OVER 60 km! My aunt is not asking me to pick up my cousins from school anymore, but before when i drove the Rav4, she always ask me to pick them up! I think she is afriad I am going to kill them! They are also very sarcastic too, for example, my uncle came over for dinner (just as I was washing my car), he was saying "Oh, you still not bored of your car yet?". I was thinking, "What are you trying to imply...?", but i answered normally and said "Nop..."

I guess the image of an 18 year old chinese boy driving a G35 coupe is always rice rice rice! speed speed speed! or once you get into an accident, IT IS ALWAYS STREET RACING! It doesnt matter if you get keyed, IT IS STILL STREET RICING.

Gosh, they sometimes make me feel like a really spoiled brat. I guess the formula they have in their simple little brain is fast car + 18 year old = street racing. I guess this image is hard to shake off, even if I were to pay for the car myself.

Well, i m done my part! Do people think you are an *** just because they envy your oh-so-ever-sexy G35?
It's cause asian people can't drive, that's why they worry.

j/k.

I'm chinese and my dad is pretty disappointed that I bought the sedan over the coupe, but it was my choice.

I go to ucla and no one envy's a G there. I and everyone else envy all those bastards driving around in their bently's and rolls....

OT, but the G coupe is the ricer boy car for today's rice boy, just like the integra once was...

thats such a generalization..its not even funny. Clearly you're jealous or have issues with these kids at your "school." Just because parents provide for their kids does not mean that they cannot teach them the value of a dollar. Stop speaking out of your a$$ and generalizing that "the EFFECT is very negative."

Im a spoilt little ****, I've had 5 cars in the time frame of two years, my latest is the R34 Skyline.
I know what it's like to be spoilt, and it may be fun, but you're a stronger person when you earn your own way.

Im not complaining about the way I was bought up, I respect my life alot and have a lot to be thankful for.

I was bought my R34 at 16.

To the spoilt brat haters - I agree with you even tho im spoilt, it's much better to earn your own way. I've been working for the past 6 months now, and it feels better when you buy something using your own money.

Thats true, but some people out there just thing young kids with expensive cars instantly means that they will not appreciate it just because they did not earn it themselves. It would be more fair to say that the kid will appreciate the car less compared to if he earned it himself/herself

Kid, you should NEVER NEVER discuss stuff like this on any car boards. Trust me, I know. I understand what you mean, but no one will care. You will just get flame.
