Everyone complains about the bad.. how about the good?

Everyone complains about the bad experiences they have with cops. But what about the good ones you've had, where you had a run-in in a cop who was actually pretty cool/nice?

I've had 3 instances where I've been pulled over... two of which ended up being w/ pretty cool cops.

The first time I was pulled over was for having underbody neons turned on on my old Accord. I was like 17 at the time. The cop - couldn't have been more than about 22 years old - asked me if I knew they were on, and I admitted I did know they were on. He then told me that they were illegal to have turned on in the town. After a couple minutes, he turned to my car w/ my license and registration and insurance, handing it all back to me and telling me that he knows what it's like to want to show off the stuff we get for our cars and knows we love going to shows and what not. So he gave me a warning and had me turned them off. First time being pulled over, and the cop was pretty good. I liked that.

I was also pulled over for going 59 in a 35. The cop (County Sherriff), facing the other way, had to back up and turn around to get me, but figured I wouldn't risk a chase (we were in a very winding road where I could have likely easily disappeared...) and pulled over. He ended up ticketing me for going 50 MPH and I didn't get in trouble for not having up-to-date insurance or my license in the car. That was pretty awesome too.

I've been quite lucky in recent years but in the past I've been stopped a couple of times and since I see most of these guys at (Fire service) calls, I got off with just a "slow down, brother" ......

Privincial cop pulled me over on my bike (1100-E) back in the 90's for going 105kph in an 80 but ticketed me for 94, so no points, and had me bring my proof of insurance to him the next day (which I had forgotten)..

So all in all quite lucky.

I was 17, and I peeled out hard in my very first car(96' Prelude) on a stop sign around 1030pm in an empty street.

I had no idea there was a cop somewhere. Of course I wasn't going very fast, maybe 45 or 50 in a 35 zone.

He pulled me over.

He let me go with a warning.

i have plenty of family and clients that are cops so it works out well. they then just look at the car and compliment it afterwards.

I went tailgating for the UGA vs. TENN game last week. There was abso fuking lutly no where to park. I saw a car parked in a fire lane, so I figured, what the hell, its worth a shot. I got a napkin and wrote a little note w/my cell # and asked to please call me before they towed me and left it on top of the VIN. Well, about 15min of being parked there, my phone rings: "where are you" ...."Athens...who is this?" "your car is about to get towed". I said thanks and took off running toward my car. There were two cops there. The lady cop was the one that called me. They were really cool and pointed me in the right direction to find a parking spot.....even though I did have to walk a solid 2 miles to get back to my friends tailgating spot. I figure that was a hell of a lot better than getting towed.

Cops have the hardest job of all. Show them respect and they will return it.

Oh yeah I remember another good one...

again when I was 17....

I was driving home late at night around midnight. cruisin around 70 mph when a pair of lights was approaching quite fast.

I was bored, it was late, I said, "Oh well, what the hell..." and guned the car when he was getting quite close.

we were going side by side up to 120 mph when sudden he bust out his spot light on my face!!!!

scared the crap out of me so I slowed down but he kept on going....

I was sooo glad he didn't pull me over.

I've had 2 lucky calls. I agree, treat them with respect and they'll probably be more leniant on you.

My first time, I was speeding through the university. I had just had a long day at work, and didn't notice my speed. I told him that, and he left me off. I call this one plain luck.

The second time, I took a left turn signal when it was almost red. He pulled me over and yelled at me, "Do you know how many accidents happen with people doing that?". I told him that I didn't think I did, he yelled at me that I did, so I told him, "Yes, I did, it's my fault.". He let me go. Go figure!

I got pulled over recently for "running" a yellow left turn light that turned into a red turn light while I was moving through the intersection.

Technically it's gridlock and the cop was right (at least in IL) but still it's lame *** to pull someone over for it. So it happened that I had just gotten a new insurance card in the mail that week and forgot to put it in my wallet...so, no proof of insurance, even though I had coverage. Technicality city.

The fellow either

a) realized he was being a dick
b) had something better to do

and let me go. My money is on b), but part of me clings to the hope that it was a).

Ya, I'd have to agree w/ the 2 of you that you treat them w/ respect and they are liable to return the favor. Not always, of course, but there are many cops who are actually nice people. I don't get people who treat cops like **** then scream bloody murder when they cops treat them like **** in return.

A cop gave me a ride to work after I got in an accident with this lady back when I was in HS, I rear ended her in an intersection because she slammed on her brakes to "stop for a squirrel" Talked to the cop on the way, and he said I was pretty much screwed, but she was a [insert profane words here] for stopping in the middle of a huge busy intersection. Pretty nice guy so they all aren't bad
