Updated results this month. 827 G owners now signed up to participate, an excellent start. The more owners participate, the better the information we can provide to everyone.

We have updated results for the G to include owner experiences through June 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2009: small sample size, no repairs reported yet

2008: 45, about average

2007 sedan: 78, about average

2006: 28, better than average

2005: 83, about average--bump as the warranty ends?

2004: 36, better than average

2003: 48, better than average

Everyone who has been helping, thanks. We'll have further updates in November and February. The more participants we have, the better the information we can provide.

You're certainly welcome. This research would not be possible without the people who joined early on and who have continued to participate.

873 G owners now signed up, enabling us to provide unusually good information on these cars. The more owners participate, the better the information we can provide.

We have updated results for the G to include owner experiences through September 30, 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2009: 10

2008: 36

2007 coupe: no repairs reported, very small sample size

2006: 36

2005: 65--bump as the warranty ends?

2004: 30

2003: 59

All are better than average except the 2005, which is about average.

We've also introduced two new statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

The percentage with no repairs is about 58 for the 2003, 85 for the 2004, 60 for the 2007, and 67 for the 2008, while the percentage of lemons is about 3 for the 2007 and less than one for the 2003, 2004, and 2008. These stats require more data, so we don't yet have them for other model years.

Everyone who has been helping, thanks. We'll have further updates in February and May. The more participants we have, the better the information we can provide.

If you guys really want legit data, all you'd have to do is open the annual Consumer Reports guide. In it, you'll see the reliability of various components/systems of the G dating back to 2003. It also gives an overall reliability rating. The data is compiled both from owners and shop data. Overall, the G series has had above average reliability and is on the recommended list.

CR's information only seems top-notch if you don't look closely.

A few things to consider:

1. First off, as with my own survey and JD Powers, all of the data comes from surveying owners. None of it comes from repair shops or CR's own testing, though many people think it does.

2. CR's survey is worded in a way that is guaranteed to distort the results.

3. CR only updates once a year after a considerable delay. Our results are already a half-year ahead, and will be over a year ahead next summer.

4. CR only posts dots, with no way to tell how large the differences actually are.

I've covered these limitations in more detail here:

We have updated results for the G to include owner experiences through December 31, 2009. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2009: 5

2008: 36

2007 coupe: 29, very small sample size

2007 sedan: 64

2006: 52

2005: 53

2004: 31

2003: 65

All are better than average except the 2006 and the 2007 sedan, which are about average.

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

The percentage with no repairs is about 61 for the 2003, 82 for the 2004, 75 for the 2006, 68 for the 2007 sedan, and 71 for the 2008, while the percentage of lemons is about 3 for the 2007 and less than one for the others. These stats require more data, so we don't yet have them for other model years.

A big thank you, once again, to this forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in May and August. The more participants we have, the better the information we can provide.

Just enhanced the related repair history survey so that it can (optionally) be used as a personal car maintenance record.

As always, more participants would be helpful. Updated Car Reliability Survey results in May, with a preview for participants next month.
