Long story short, my wheel lock key is gone. I took the car to the dealership, and they were unable to get them off using the 'master'. Took it to the dealership I bought it at, no luck there either. I said screw it, just destroy the locks for me. "Sorry there isn't enough room to get rid of them without wrecking your rims" (winter wheels).

So, apparently I am on my own here

Searching has turned up suggestions like hammering a bolt in, freezing it with god knows what to shatter it, and heating it up with a torch....

Has anyone personally had to remove their wheel locks? What worked for you? I've read lots of "I hear that such and such works", but I'm looking for stuff that you've actually done

I don't think it matters, but I have 17" ASA JH3's on right now.

Did you try contacting the people who made the locks? I'm taking that it wasn't a infiniti wheel lock.

 

No idea who makes them, they came with the car on OEM 18's

 

they have those universal sockets that have all the little pins in em, supposed to form to any sized bolt. If you can find one of those give it a try, I used that awhile back on another car and it worked perfectly.

Did you look through all the manuals and paperwork that came with your car when you bought it for a card with the wheel lock information?

I bought my '04 used and the wheel lock key was missing, but I found a card with the manufacturers info and the wheel lock key code number. I called and ordered 2 of them and they were delivered in about a week.

 

I keep pretty tight records, but nothing about the wheel locks unforuntatly

 

Sorry to hear that. I hope one of those pin sockets can do the job for you.

 

......only other thing I can think of is to drill them out and replace the studs, as a last resort...

If you haven't got the lockset id tags, then a replacement key can't be had.
Usually the dealership has copies of many of the lock nuts on cars sold to their customers.
On all three Nissan/Infiniti's I bought, they asked me for my key id to obtain a spare for their shop.

Another shop who has some saved keys may have what you need.

take it to a tire shop. they have a socket which they will hammer onto your wheel lock. once the the socket is wedged into the lug nut, they can remove the lug nut. they had to do that for my brother's car when he lost his key. did no damage to all four wheels.

 

I'll have to keep calling.

All the shops I call refuse to do it. They just tell me to take it to the dealer.

 

 

well i guess you could do it yourself since no one wants to take responsibility. all you need to do is go to sears and buy a 12 point socket that will fit into the slot for the lug nut on the wheel and the socket being slightly smaller than the nut. hammer away. i'm sure it will take a lot of force since your are trying to force it onto the wheel lock. once on, u can turn the wheel lock using the socket. it can be done, just a lot of work. just be careful...
