What if you put different size tires on your car... taller, shorter in height in the rear which changes your gear ratio and throws off your speedometer, which will throw off how many miles you actually went... try driving 5 miles on a highway, set your trip meter to 0 and see what it says when u hit the 5th mile, thats why I think that is why we see a variety of highway MPG.
