Beware of hood hinges!

A few weeks ago, I had to have my coupe sent to a body shop because the hood hinges failed after ordinary use. It was covered under the warranty by Infiniti. I had to bring the car back to Infiniti to have them send it back to the body shop so that the body shop could fix something they screwed up. The Service Representative said they had received 6-7 more cars during that two week period with failed or failing hood hinges. He notified Infiniti engineers and they are working on it. If you notice any sticking of the hinges, take it in before it fails and you need a repaint where the hood and fender chip. My guess is this problem is related to weather corrosion in colder climates. Just be warned.

What exactly happened with the hinges? Did your hood fall off or something lol

I have hood dampers, so I doubt I can feel if they're sticking or not.

I'm taking my car in this week for the same problem, looks like the hinge dries up and siezes up resulting in a bent hinge when you go to open your hood, once I get them changed, I'll make sure they're always lubricated.

Sorry, I've been swamped at work. Anyway, mine is an '04 coupe. I don't think it is confined just to G35s. My problem was the same as that described above. The exception is that I had some work done on my car and they lifted the hood causing chipping of the hood and fenders in the area of the hinges. Was it fixed to my satisfaction? Hmmm. The chips were fixed, but the A$$&*^% at the body shop decided to buff my car for me. Not only did it not need it, they instilled major swirls and holograms all over the car. To make matters worse, they also actually burned through the paint and plastic film in two spots by the REAR quarter panel. Down through the primer to bare metal. Uggg. They are in the process of fixing it.

All seems to be good. Just got it back and only some minor swirling issues that can be cleaned up.
