Importing a G35 to Canada
Importing a G35 to Canada
Hey I had a browse of your message boad, looks like I'm **** outta luck for importing a new 2007 G35 coupe into Canada. I had the deal all worked out with a US dealer when I read this.
"Oh.. last thing... Nissan/Infiniti Canada have just issued a memo to all dealer service centers stating that the car has to have been registered in the US for a minimum of 6 months in order to qualify for warranty claims in Canada. For the record, Nissan USA knows nothing of this memo when I called last week."

I got a speach from a service guy here in Winnipeg, I had no clue about this and it says nothing on the US Infiniti website. I know the Canadian Warranty has the 6 month rule, but after countless calls to the US Infiniti customer support line I guess they really don't know about it.
If there is any truth to this I thank you BbyG35, this saved me a lot of time and money. I guess I'll still have to work it out and see if it's worth it to import the car, but I'm still interested in a used 2005 or 2006 US G35, so long as it's been registered in the US for more than 6 months.

Ok so I stand corrected yet again. Infiniti USA contacted Infiniti Canada's Warranty department for me and they've Ok'd it. There really is nothing in the US warranty manual stating any 6 month rule, and memo or not, that warranty brochure is what is printed. Canada seems to be the only side saying you can't export a vehicle to the US unless it's registered here for 6 months or more. So when we get this confirmed I'm picking up an 07 coupe from the States.
Koloman,
im in the process of looking at importing a G37 as well. The 6month restriction i believe has been misinterpretted -- it basically prevents anyone that imports/exports a nissan/infiniti vehicle from selling it within 6 months (or else it will void the warranty). Everything else as far as im aware of is ok.
Where the major hurdle right now for me is determining when the 2008 model will be updated in RIV's list of admissible vehicles (riv.ca).
Where in Canada are you? Im in the westcoast (vancouver).. PM me for more details.

Hahaha yeah, they always seem quick to 'know' something that proves you wrong, ie. they love to argue. We talked with the service manager though, he definitely did misinterperet the 6 month thing because he read it out of the Canadian Warranty manual and immediately thought it applied to my situation.
As far as the G37 goes, just make sure you do your homework like I did and read the warranty manuals like 10 times to make sure they didn't stick something in there for 2008. I doubt they will, but then there's also the issue of DRL's, which could be anywhere from $250 to $800.
Still, it's worth it, I'll update more on the final cost when I actually know what it is, there's certainly a lot of variables right now.
