Extended warranty woes

I bought my '03 G35 coupe from a private seller just over a year ago and the vehicle carries with it an extended warranty the first buyer purchased from Infiniti. What neither I nor the seller knew at the time was that there was a 30-day period in which he was obligated to either collect his money from Infiniti with the cancellation of the extended warranty or to sign over to me the contract he had bought. When I bought the car, he informed me of the warranty and obviously did not cancel it.

Infiniti is refusing to allow the transfer to be handed over to me at this late date and when I spoke to a customer service rep at Infiniti corp., he as much as admitted that yes, Infiniti was going to simply pocket the original buyer's money from the sale of a warranty that doesn't even kick in for a few days.

What can or should I do to get the warranty that at least ethically belongs to me?

I think you are SOL. I mean if Inifinti will not even fix my door lock after it failed at 62K, then i am pretty sure they will not honor this extended warranty thing. Goodluck with that though...

Have you read the actual document? I would certainly look at that and see how clearly these terms were stated. I would continue to bitch and moan my way up the ladder... at some point someone will probably cave. It also wouldn't hurt to go to the dealership that the original owner used to purchase the warranty to see if they can assist you.

read the original warranty contract pertaining to cancellations or transfers. The original owner is the one who must enact any policy changes, so you will have to chase him/her down to get anything done, if possible...

I agree with Q45, they're hoping you'll just write it off. I would complain and speak with the manager(s), keep calling back and generally attempt to annoy them to the point where they'll agree just to get me off the line. No matter what it says in the fine print theres always a chance for some flexibility in the interest of good customer relations.

I have one that I got from Infiniti Sotuh Atlanta through EasyCare, and they are actually pretty good with some of the small things. They have replaced 4 tires since I have had it as long as I had 3/32 of tread. That is about $1200 in tires alone, so it did pay for itself after the 3rd tire.
