I've owned:
98 Bmw M3
03 Audi A4
1995 Toyota Twin Turbo Supra
99 Lexus RX300
90 Mitsubishi Eclipse
Infiniti G35X
etc

I've had my G35X for 3 months and it has been back to the service dealer 4 times with a 5th scheduled for next week, - unacceptable.

So as you can see, some clients have had annoying problems with the G and others love their cars but I think it is that way with any brand.

I would say you will do better from a quality/ownership perspective with the Lexus but for the value/fun factor the G can't be beat.

Time will tell if the dealer is able to work through these intial quality problems with my car, but after coming off of the Audi A4 the power has be seduced!

Hmmm I had my G for about 10months! and i have about 2900mi on it so far. I have had zero problems whatsoever! Only thing I took the car to the dealer were for TSB fixes for small Minor things. other than that Trouble free and loving it so far!

i have had my G for little over 7 months, have about 4500miles, took it to the dealer only for an oil change. i love everytime i get in the car and take it out.

i believe every dealer/car/driver is different, so u musnt let all these opinions have to big affect on your choice. i would suggest u go to a lexus forum and ask people about their opinions on the IS350.

I'm at 13K+ miles and no major issues. My brother has an 05 coupe and he hasn't had any major issues either. I considered the IS350 as well but it was a little too small for me. I feel like I got the most bang for my buck with my 07 G. The only thing I'm miffed about is not having the full ipod integration the 08s have. But I guess with technology the way it is, I can't complain..

6,000 miles and no significant issues. Had the sunroof finisher and heated seat TSB's done. Need to have the cruise control downhill surging TSB done, but no biggie. Love the car. (Previously owned 3 Acuras.)

Talking Reliability

I've owned:

93 Ford Mustang GT
01 Honda Accord
01 Acura CL Type-S
07 G35 Journey

The Ford experience will guarantee that I never buy a Ford product again.
I love the Honda/Acura reliability and problem-free engine. (I put 200K on each engine and they still ran as tight as the day I first drove them)

I only have 3K on my G and it runs like a champ.
Reliability, in my mind, can only be assessed at at least 100K.
I'm hoping that the engine is as tight at 100K as my Hondas.
But even so......the Honda/Acura performance doesn't even come close to the exhilarating fun factor of the G.
The rear wheel drive makes a huge difference after owning an Acura.

So this sporty fun factor with the G means that I'm willing to accept some minor dealer recalls provided that the Infiniti dealerships own up and take responsibility for fixing things right.
There's nothing worse than a dealership that tries to give you excuses (ala Ford Motor)

And it gives me a bit of confidence that Consumer Reports and JD Power give the G high marks in reliability.

It's pretty rare that the Nissan V6 will give you any trouble, it holds the record for the most "Wards 10 best engines" awards. I've got 12k on our 07 G and it's rattle free and haven't had any issues other than the sunroof trim TSB and will have the Cruise Control TSB addressed next month.

I tested the IS and it's a nice package but not worth the extra 4-5k for the same package and a small back seat. I also felt the doors had a less substantial feel about them (more like a Toyota). The G feels more substantial in that area, much like the A4 that I''ve driven extensively.

One minor gripe, I wish the entire guage cluster had blue lighting, the red LED info panel is too hard to read during the day. Other than that, just love the car, a total blast on the twisty back roads and the styling is perfect IMO.

Yeah, before I bought my 07 G, I test drove:

Lexus IS: The car felt soft and lacked road feeling and feedback. Interior too small. $5-7K more than the G. The interior is nice and well planned. Also I didn't like how the same body style offered 2 engines, 250 & 350. The G commands respect since the engine is equal in all models. All in all, it lacked a sporty feel of a true sports sedan.

Acura TL: The car has a great smooth-revving engine but suffers from the front-wheel drive powertrain. Being an Acura loyalist, I liked the complete package offering for the money and its predicted reliability. The car was quick but didn't have the whiplash push of the G. The type S was nice, much tighter, and quicker, and more money. But my biggest knock against Acura is their styling. The TL back looks unfinished.....like taking a giant chainsaw and cutting the tail off at an awkward angle. The car looks dated. Acura should really hire some Italian designers for their next model year.

BMW 335i: Admittedly, this car is pure machine. The engine is powerful and the driver feels linked to the roadway. Torque is incredible. I drove this car after I drove the G. The feel of the car is very similar. At one point, I closed my eyes to recall the feeling of the G. Price was a killer for this vehicle. To get all my desired features including Nav, meant paying a very high premium over the G. And I just couldn't justify it. The G scored high marks in every category and was priced right. One other morsel....I live in the Fort Myers/Naples Florida area. Beamers are a dime a dozen. They're everywhere. They're like Mustangs in Michigan. And after seeing them so much, you become numb to their looks.

I luv my G.
I notice it actually requires disciplined restraint to not put the pedal to the medal.
The car begs to be revved and pushed around corners.
Driving the speed limit, the car is quiet and tight, like a panther waiting to be awaken from its slumber.
And when called upon, it responds with a roar.....

Gotta admit, as a former BMW owner.... I felt similar.. In the Dallas area they are a dime a dozen in the land of $50k yr millionaires. I loved my previous BMW's and loved my wife's older Acura. Our current Accord has been very reliable for the past 2 yrs as well.

Anyway, ultimately, I loved what I got for the money in the G35 and you don't see them at every stop light. I seriously considered the Acura TL Type S, but just couldn't bring myself to buy another car in it's last year of the body style. It wasn't as fun to drive either.

Since I have just had my Infinity for a few days, the jury is out.. But I am really liking it so far...

I've had my G for 4 months, no problems encountered. In fact I just had my first oil change today and when I dropped the car off I asked them to replace the key fobs (Infiniti is replacing ALL key fobs under warranty due to a problem with cell phone interference). After waiting about a half hour, the service tech came to me and said he was sorry but they did not have any more key fobs available. Therefore due to the inconvenience, they comped me on the oil change.

I dumped a Lexus ES330 after 2 years to buy the G. There are ongoing significant transmission problems with the entire ES line. I'm not sure if the IS line has the same problem, but you should check the online forums at Edmunds and other Lexus forums to see if others are having problems.

The G is a much nicer car IMO, the IS is very small inside, and not as much fun to drive.

No Issues

I bought a 2003 G35 sedan that was certified by Infiniti and owned it for over two years. I have had absolutely no problems with it, (I still have it, BTW, but I'm selling it.) It is the most dependable used car I've ever purchased and I've owned over 20 cars in my life.

I have a 2007 G35x now because I had such a good experience with the 2003. IMO, the G35 can't be beat for performance, looks, and reliability.

I have just a little over 7k miles (about 6 months old) on my 07 G35 Journey and the only time I had to bring it into the dealer was for a nail in the sidewall (discount tire doesn't keep stock of the sport tires..). This is only my second car, since I'm 20. Before this I had a 05 Altima which had 0 issues.

I seem to have the same problem most appear to have on this forum, just too hard to drive it slow I also considered the IS350, Acura TL, and Altima 3.5SE. It came down to wanting more room than the IS350 offers and a better driving experience (and the price tag was much easier to accept as well!)
