Exclamation

That is not rust.

That is brake dust or some other small piece of metal that went into your clear coat and oxidized.

Get a clay bar and some quick detailer, it will come right off.

That happens a lot on my wifes white lexus.

That is not the panel rusting.

UPDATE: I clay bar'd it and it removed the rust but there was a tiny hole left (black). It is the size of a needle head. I waxed over it and I will see what happens. I notified the dealer and if it gets worse I will go there. I guess it depends on how deep the hole is.

Oh yeah, lesson learned: When using clay make sure to use enough lubricant and do not press too hard. I left a few faint scratches that I had to buff out (were very minor but I am ****).

I would absolutely touch it up with the correct touch-up paint on the tip of a needle or toothpick, and blend it in with the clay bar after it's dry. Painting that whole panel is way overkill... I would rather have the spot than aftermarket paint on a brand new car!

You should not be the one fixing this, this should go under warranty, what will happen if they find out you tried fixing this earlier and made it maybe worse? I am sure they have contact with good body shops, and you should have the car repainted in my opinion, I am sure if a car had come like this from factory to the dealer, after staying outside at the port. You wouldn't notice if the car was repainted if it was done by a pro, I'm sure shops working for a dealership should have the correct color But since I don't live in the U.S. I don't know how it is there, good luck bro!

My mom has one of those on her Mazda 6. The dealer claimed it was not rust but instead a rock chip.....on the roof of the car!. I almost laughed a whole in my socks. They promised to fix it if it got any worse. That was when the car was new in 2004. It never got worse, never spread. I finally gave up waiting and I wax over it now.

Update: I clay bar'd it and it lifted the rust spot. What was left is a tiny pit in the paint. It looks like whatever it was penetrated like a needle into the paint and left a black dot with slightly raised edges. I have kept it waxed for a month now and you can not see it except for up close. If it does not come back I will live with the dot. I covered my *** and emailed a photo to the dealer to show them in case it gets worse.

You'll be fine with that I think.

On a related note: I was in a showroom today looking at a new G37. It had rust, I'm certain it was rust, on the end of one of the exhaust pipes. It looked bad...real bad...hadn't even left the showroom floor!

Replacing a quarter panel is about the worst thing they could do... Any unibody car with a quarter cut is automatic frame damage to any dealer/auction/etc.

i've got paint chipping off my rear-view mirror that the dealer won't replace. but u think they'll replace an entire quarter panel on a brand new car because of a spec of dirt. yeah.. good luck with that.
